Upper West Side dogs will have the opportunity to show off their Halloween costumes and collect treats from local merchants on Friday October 27th from 5-7 p.m. at the second annual  Trick-or-Treat Night for Dogs (rain date Monday October 30th). Thirty-four neighborhood businesses between West 67th and West 83rd Streets, from Columbus Avenue to Broadway, have signed up to participate.
Dog owners can start by picking up complimentary âtrick-or treat bagsâ at one of three locations: Camp Canine (46 West 73rd Street) Bond Vet (352 Amsterdam Ave at 76th Street,) and The Pet Market (132 West 72th Street.)
Trick-or-Treat Night for Dogs is the brainchild of Amanda Gay, Marketing Manager of Camp Canine, an UWS dog day-care and grooming facility. âI created this fun neighborhood event to foster community on the Upper West Side and provide a way for people to involve their pups in the spooky season,â she told West Side Rag. âLast year we had over 200 dogs participate, and the Upper West Side was just swarming with dogs in costumes.â
This year, Gay is collaborating with two new partners. Rescue Treats, a company which makes all-natural dog treat will be donating treats to the UWS merchants to give the trick-or-treaters. Rescue Treats donates a portion of profits to dog rescue organizations. Animal Lighthouse Rescue, a non-profit dog rescue organization led by Upper West Siders will have a booth set up outside of Pet Market where some of their adoptable dogs will be in costume and ready to meet potential new owners.
A variety of Upper West Side businesses will participate including; Paper Source, Sephora, Orange Theory, Lululemon, Aliceâs Tea Cup, Amsterdam Wine Co., Just Food For Dogs, Blue Mercury, New Balance, Levain Bakery, and Shakespeare & Co. A complete list as well as a trick or treat map can be found here.
âUpper West Siders love their dogs, and Iâm happy to put together this community event for our neighbors,â Gay told WSR. âItâs the perfect opportunity to turn off the screen and make Halloween memories with your favorite four-legged family member.â

very cute.
but i am assuming the dogs will get their treats outside (not entering restaurants and food stores as dogs are not permitted)
I can’t wait until a dog brings wine to the table tonight.
I’m going to lick all the plates clean – rufus dog
I heard the dogs will be allowed inside the restaurant AND the kitchens that night
Ah yes. Dogs are not permitted in food stores. Way to be a buzzkill.
I can’t help but smile when I see a dog (especially in costume!)
We are so blessed to have them in our lives.
Friday should be fun.
What a great, fun idea. I hope it catches on and other cities will do this!
