Drug dealers have become much more prevalent in this area between 86th and 110th on amsterdam. They constantly hang out in the same places every day and the police are very much aware of them yet they are not doing anything. When you have drug activity it’s only a matter of time before you see an increase in assaults, robberies, and shootings. We need active Street Patrol working the beat on foot like in the old days. We need officers who are out there and know the people and build relationships in the neighborhoods. That is the way to fight the rise of crime and to get these drug dealers off our streets who have now resorted to threatening the business owners on Amsterdam Avenue that they will shoot them if they report them. NYPD please wake up and do something before we see our neighborhood turn into a Gangland.

Your point is valid. When is the time anyone has seen a patrolman or woman outside of a police car? Usually looking at their phone.

In 35 years I have never seen a cop on foot on WEA. Not a single time.

The poll was for all of New York State, not NYC specifically.

You can read the results on the Siena College Research Institute’s website.

The NYPD is being DEFUNDED once again, Adams is slashing overtime for the NYPD. This will force thousands of senior officers to retire almost immediately or they will loss thousands of dollars per year for the rest of their lives. This will also cut the amount of officers in the subways and Detective will not have enough hours in a day to properly investigate crimes. Adams said the migrant crisis will destroy NYC , hang on to your hats it’s coming.

That’s a very thin lie. NYPD’s budget is about 20-30% LARGER than it was a decade ago.

There’s been no defunding. There has absolutely been a decrease in ‘activity’ because the cops don’t feel any pressure to respond to civilian complaints

Taking the mid-point of your numbers, 25%, translates to a 2.25% annual increase.

The NYPD has received massive budget increases every year. It has never been defunded. Quit spreading lies

The issue is with there are fewer officers so the department is spending more on overtime. If you cut overtime spending there are fewer officers on the street. The NYPD cant recruit enough new officers. They aren’t retaining the ones they have.

Now that children walk into these stores, walk out, and smoke pot right outside, drug dealers know where to be. They’re all over the place. Blame US, not Adams. Of course, he’s not doing much. But he is not the only one!!

Police have no details. In the age of AI and cameras, how is this possible? Maybe the NYPD should take a class trip to downtown Boston. No cops in sight, yet no crime. How you ask? The criminals don’t go downtown bc the place is carpeted with hidden surveillance cameras. Maybe we need more than 6 cameras on the upper west side. Maybe we pilot one camera per block and see what happens to the crime statistics. We have so many police but (1) we never see them and (2) the case closure rate is low. We never hear “we nabbed the guy.” It’s always a cold Case. This is insanity.

Start calling your city, Council person, and politely and respectfully ask for more cameras in that area.

There is a tremendous amount of drug dealing going on and we need to have it stop for the safety of our children.

Drug dealers will sell to kids, they really don’t care or have any moral ethics, and there’s very few penalties for them anymore under the new bail law.
