Affordable Enrichment Classes for Seniors on the Upper West Side

Inside National Council of Jewish Women New York’s Council House building on West 72nd Street, staff are busy preparing for the new Council Lifetime Learning (CLL) semester to begin.

Council Lifetime Learning is the place to be for older active New Yorkers who value life-long learning and community. With affordable classes in Council House’s comfortable Upper West Side environment, Council Lifetime Learning provides a wide range of arts, humanities, cultural educational, and recreational programming. CLL fosters community, strength, and creativity.

“We count on Council Lifetime Learning’s high-quality, accessible programs.” – Sue and Sandy Friedberg, mother and daughter CLL participants

The programming is based on the philosophy that arts and culture are uniquely effective ways to engage and empower older adults, building on their interests and strengths to maintain connection and vitality as the aging process continues. This programming helps seniors to defy the stereotypes associated with growing old and to continue learning and growing into their 70s, 80s and well beyond.

With more than 30 classes and discussion groups each week, there is something for everyone at Council Lifetime Learning. Whether you’re interested in strengthening your body in Tai Chi, looking inward during Meditation, or expressing your creative side with Watercolor, CLL has options for anyone looking for a place to build skills and build community.

Council Lifetime Learning prides itself on not only running state of the art programming and unique classes but doing so accessibly. The mandatory membership fee is $72 for the year, and most classes are under $100. Discussion groups, which cover topics like “Current Events” and the “Emotional Aspects of Aging” are no additional cost for members. For those in financial need, the membership fee can be waived, and class scholarships are available.

Interested in joining Council Lifetime Learning and taking some classes this fall? You can stop by Council House (241 West 72nd Street between Broadway and West End) on Wednesday, September 6th for their Open House. They’re running a special deal just for Open House attendees: Register for classes on-site at the Open House and receive 10% off your annual membership fee. And, refer a friend who registers for a class at the Open House and receive an extra 10% off a class fee.

Can’t make it on September 6th? Join the mailing list to be the first to hear about the new semester and when to register.

Questions? Reach out to Denise Paradiso, Program and Volunteer Coordinator for Council Lifetime Learning at denise@ncjwny.org or 212-687-5030 ext. 0.
