A man was fatally struck by a train at the 72nd Street and Broadway subway station this morning. According to the NYPD, the incident occurred just after 10 a.m. Police told WSR the victim was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital where he was declared deceased.
According to reporting by the New York Daily News, the victim was 22-years old and police are considering the incident to be a suicide. The News also reports a 47-year old man was killed in a separate subway incident on the East Side, with that victim jumping in front of a downtown 6 train about two hours earlier.
New York City Transit alerted riders to delays in southbound trains at 10:09 a.m. and later indicated that southbound and northbound express trains had been diverted to the local track.
