A local man found the ring pictured above on the northwest corner of West 87th Street and Amsterdam Avenue last week. He thinks it may have sentimental value as two names are engraved inside. Write to us at info@westsiderag.com, tell us the names, and we’ll tell you where to pick it up. Hope you are pleasantly surprised!
Well, some nice news for a change. Although I cannot claim the ring, I grew up on the fifth floor of the apt building on the southeast corner of that intersection, 176 West 87th St. I cannot tell how many times I looked at that corner from our apt. window. I often rode in the elevator with Barney Greengrass, and my dad owned Frank Hoffman Hardware store, a couple of blocks south at 511 Amsterdam Ave.
Bilbo Baggins and Gollum
So sweet of that person who found it to take the time to try to locate the owner of the ring. I really hope the person whose ring this belongs to sees this message and claims it. Please follow up with an update! Fingers crossed.
Heartening to hear of a citizen who tries to make a lost article find its owner.
Inside my parents’ wedding rings were inscribed the words, “J___ and G___ in eternal love.”
How nice to read this hope this ring finds its owner. I lost my class ring in the sand in Florida and I wish I could have found it. It was one of my accomplishments so anyone in Webster, Masscott, or Groveland Florida and you find a class ring with a purple stone. Email me Thank you and God Bless
When I was tiny we found a ring in Riverside Park which was similar to the one pictured here. My mother was able to engineer its return by contacting the school bc she (turns out correctly) thought it might be a class ring. Could this be a school ring too? Maybe the finder can try to identify it that way in case the ring’s owner doesn’t see this article. Thanks wsr for publishing!
It must be a class ring. To the left of the blue stone is the number “20”, which must be the year of graduation. To the left and right of the stone are the letters, “A” and “C”. If the letter “C” is for college than “A” must be the first letter of the name of the college. Also to the right are the letters “AMY”. I do not know what that means. Lastly to the far right is a lion with a crown on its head. I think the strange image in the center of the blue stone may be an abstract image of a lion/human hybrid wearing a crown. This obviously has meaning for the college
Hi. I found the ring. In the last couple of days I learned a little bit more about it. It is definitely a school ring. It probably belonged to someone named Amy with the initials AC. The lion on the side is likely because Amy is a Leo. Unfortunately all I know about the school is that it’s a high school that begins with the letter A (from the AHS in the center) and likely uses the symbol on the left side of the ring as its mascot. I reached out to the manufacturer of the ring to see if they could tell me what school it came from but they said they couldn’t due to privacy laws.
Nice try! But you can turn it in to the police. They can get info that you can’t. The WSR only reaches so many people and if I lost something I’d check with the police not a local paper. There probably aren’t many 2020 grads reading this.
You are a good detective! Hopefully someone can connect the rest of the dots 🙂
