Updated: Police Activity at Jack’s Convenience on Broadway and 109th

Something is happening at Jack’s Convenience store on Broadway between 108th and 109th — it sure looks like a raid, but, as it is happening right now, a police report has not yet been filed, so there are no more details. What we know, thanks to an anonymous tipster, is that “three NYPD officers are standing at the entrance of Jack’s Convenience on the east side of Broadway between 108th and 109th Streets. [There are] Sheriff’s vehicles out front as well.” We will update when details come in.

Update: 2:01 PM: The NYPD still has no reports about the activity at Jack’s Convenience, but our tipster sent a new photo and report:

“Officers (NYPD? Sheriff?) have been inside the store for hours filling large see-through garbage bags with items. Now they are taking them out and loading them into the NYPD van.”

More to come.

Sure 3 cops is enough? Why not 10? we need to occupy them so the criminals are free to roam the streets. Kudos to whoever put them there. Good job spending our tax money, indeed.

I’ve “heard” that place has the best weed in the neighborhood. It’s a destination.

That store is terrible for the community. It should immediately be closed. May I also suggest to a proposition or ordinance banning smoke shops from 500 feet of schools.

They won’t even ban shelters with violent felons from being 500’feet from a school . Weed is nothing in comparison .

As I walked by I heard a young girl say “So now where will I get my edibles.” I hope they close the place down.

The picture on the far left of the store is Amy Winehouse the singer who died of drug and alcohol abuse at the age of twenty-seven. On the far right a think I see a picture of Jerry Garcia a well known musician and heroin addict who died young. I do not recognize the other slimy looking characters adjacent to the Garcia pictures. If these innumerable new smoke shops want to remain open they should avoid this type of artwork.

Jerry Garcia died young? HE died a decade after “Touch of Grey” celebrated their senior status

I think on the far right at the 5 o’oclock and 7 o’clock spots are Cheech and Chong. They’re still alive and well.

Slimy looking characters?
You say you don’t know who they are, but they are slimy.
Look at our politicians. Some look slimy too.
The fact that Amy and Jerry used drugs does not make them worth any less than some of our “normal” citizens, and these two sure made better music than most.

We should thank these offices for what they did today. These unlicensed stores selling illegal narcotics are a menace to our neighborhood. Every one of them should be raided and shut down. I am ok with legalizing weed, but through a fair and regulatory process that ensures safe products sold by reputable dealers, not these “smoke shops” that are effectively illegal narcotics distributors.

Actually, the products they are selling are legal. Legal to possess and legal to consume. And less dangerous and lethal than a lot of the narcotics sold at Duane Reade or CVS.

@nycityny The difference is that if you buy narcotics at Duane Reade and CVS you have to show ID. Even if you are a 50 year old picking up Robitussin cough syrup.

The smoke shops do not check IDs and they do NOT sell “legal products” to youth because in NYS it is illegal for anyone under 21 to use or possess cannabis. Once sold to youth, the products themselves become illegal.

If the smoke shops are going to sell without a license can they at least have the decency to follow the age laws. Or do they not plan to follow any laws, ever?

Silliness. They are ILLEGALLY selling legal products ? Duh. The real Duh belongs to all the politicians who had their head up there.. well we all know where they had their heads when they decided to legalize marijuana and have no regulation in place before they did it.

“Convenience” store. Yes. Sure.

Surprise raids of these stores are a dumb and ineffective way of dealing with the situation. If the “system” got off its duff and licensed more legal stores then there wouldn’t be a market for these “convenience” stores.

There are currently 3 legal weed stores in Manhattan and they are all in the same area. How did that great planning happen? And why are there only 3 stores two years after pot was legalized? We have a high demand product that is legal to own and legal to consume but with little opportunity to legally purchase it. And people are surprised that stores are selling it illegally? Pot has been sold illegally in this city for decades, only now its consumption is legal. Spot raids area a lazy showboating way of dealing with the situation.

Arrest anyone on premises.

Confiscate and burn all inventory on The Highline.

Confiscate the properties in which the ‘product’ is being illegally sold via civil forfeiture, and convert them to ‘affordable’ housing.

‘Cause they ain’t believe in us.

Seriously and the licensed spots are over priced, and hard to get to. Instead of raiding them offer a them a license.

And there’s another “convenience” store right across the street! They all have the same look. There must be a decorating outfit that puts these places together.

Today (march 28) the NYC Sheriffs were at the Lincoln Convenience store on West 70 to west 71 street on Broadway. They are going after those CBD stores. It is probably an initiative to confiscate all the contraband sold at those type of stores, there were atleast 6 vehicles from the NYC Sheriff parked on that block🫡. That will definitively help to quiet down the block🙏🏾!!!

It’s odd that voters wanted to legalize pot, and now the comments are almost 100% negative about it.

the comments aren’t about legal pot. None of these shops are legal distributors. The only comment about the legal pot was that shops are expensive and hard to get to.

I passed by Jacks Convenience Store yesterday after 4:00 pm and they were open. The workers saw me looking through the window and looked back with real fear. If the police are going to come back and arrest people they ought to inform the minimum wage clerks behind the counter so they can lock the door and get out of there.

If the sheriff is involved, it is usually a tax issue.

Diablo the hate. They don’t bother nobody. The only thing is you guys don’t smoke. They are doing something u won’t dare do. Leave em be. They aren’t changing ur life or affecting it no? It’s not crack or heroin they are selling. If u got to meet them they are good people. Very judgemental. So what they smoke in the store….mind your business what’s it doing to you? Nothing at all. Wasted energy. Pathetic.
