Jubilant crowds greet runners as they complete the last stretch of the 2022 TCS NYC Marathon near Central Park West on Sunday, November 6.
Nearly 50,000 runners participated in this year’s NYC Marathon.

Alex, who is from Spain and has participated in 55 marathons so far, ran for the first time in the NYC Marathon. “It was an amazing experience,” he said.
Almost 40% of this year’s runners were international and over 125 countries were represented at the Marathon, according to The New York Times.
The New York Road Runners guided spectators to viewing sites all around. “I ran the NYC Marathon in 2019. But this was my first time volunteering. When you’re running, you feel the adrenaline. But this time, I’m happy cheering for the runners,” a volunteer said.

I’m sure these are a much better product for the athletes, but I do miss seeing the silver space aliens walking around the neighborhood all day. Big congrats to all who ran, it’s always a fun and festive day to be out and about on the UWS!

They removed the silver heat wraps for this year because of the warm weather but retained this comfy blue poncho they give out every year.

Weird how little attention it attracts in NY!
Only two comments here!
I wonder why it’s so ignored here in the US?
Last year I went into the bar on W.73rd street and they had football on the TV… while the marathon was blazing away 2 blocks away! ? Strange.

What gave the idea that it doesn’t attract attention?
Many of us watched and cheered in person and don’t need to comment here to express interest(but I did anyway) .

The marathon is one of the best days of the year! Most people who want to watch are cheering in person, so not too surprising a bar would be showing football instead.

I guess it’s all those UWSers too afraid of their own shadows to walk outside and take in the glory: did we do extreme vetting of all the rapists and drug dealers that could slip in?

It’s my favorite day of the year to walk on the UWS, seeing all those who completed it spill out on to the streets with ponchos and medals. Yesterday,, the day after, is wonderful also to see people walking about wearing their medals.

Congratulations to all the marathoners!

I wrote a comment to similar effect, which hasn’t appeared. Anyway, it was heartening to see everyone encouraging everyone and exulting in a shared, positive experience.

Really, so not ignored! Have you seen the crowds? Tried to take a bus down Columbus? Followed the various live media (who needs a sports bar?) I was on the subway around 1 pm and when a couple of medal- and -cape- bedecked finishers got on, They were warmly greeted with congratulations and questions from impressed strangers both on the train and as they exited the station. Such a special day.

I’m a UWSer who ran the marathon this year, the crowds were electric due to the hot weather! The runners, not so much – too hot to PR. I was SO thankful to be living on the upper west side and getting to walk home after the 25 min walk from the finish line to where runners can reunite with their families. I love the UWS!
