As a result, the improvements to the St. Agnes branch have been postponed until August 15. St. Agnes’ last day of service will be Saturday, August 13. Riverside Park Conservancy’s “Running of the Goats” will take place on Wednesday, June 29, at 11 AM at 120th Street and Riverside Drive. “There will be 20 goats running, four of whom will remain for the entire summer. Anyone interested in attending the Running of the Goats can RSVP at this link.”

News
Though New York State is still a safe place in terms of women’s rights, The New York Times and NPR provide extensive coverage of the aftermath of the Roe v. Wade decision in other states across the nation. And in its overturning frenzy, SCOTUS put all New Yorkers — and Americans — in greater jeopardy when it struck down New York’s concealed carry gun law, according to the Associated Press.

We definitely need a new, sane party. Both Democrats and Republicans went to the extremes.

No, Democrats are not extreme. It is absurd to say both sides are just as bad.

Our democrats are just lazy because they are guaranteed reelection.

Well, they have been, but that is beginning to change because they’re doing nothing and our rights are being taken away. The Dems need to get their act together.

New York ‘City without bail and with only criminals owning guns is now the wild wild west. When law-abiding citizens can arm themselves crime will drop as it will put fear into the minds of criminals. I was attacked by a group of young folks and almost killed in 1991. Afterward a cop told me I was attacked because it was summer and the “kids” saw that I was not armed. Now living in Missoula, and owning guns, I feel so much safer. Having to come home from work by myself in NYC was very scary.

So we should all have guns and wear holsters just so everyone will know not to mess with us? How people can believe that the answer is more guns is beyond my comprehension.

So how many people are prepared to arm themselves like Clint Eastwood in Unforgiven and shoot it out with the gangbangers who the Supreme Court just said have a constitutional right to carry firearms everywhere they go?

How is it that gun lovers always overlook the “well-regulated militia” part of the Second Amendment? It’s the opening phrase of the amendment, right there in the first four words. To think that the framers wanted anyone to be able to carry a semiautomatic handgun with 13 bullets in it is insane, and the people who profess to believe that have a lot fear. That’s the one common among all gun nuts, they’re very afraid of something.

Um, in NYS all guns, rifles and handguns both, are limited to ten rounds. However, criminals, of course, can carry magazines of whatever capacity they like. Oh, and there are differing interpretations of what makes a militia. Some folks say that the militia was all able bodied people less than a certain age. Of course, one can go back to the original sources and research this is more detail.

“A WELL REGULATED MILITIA”. Whatever you call what’s going on in this country is anything but, in fact there is very little regulation over gun ownership. Rather unregulated ownership and use of firearms are encouraged by the rabid right. I’ve lost all respect for scotus which has become a political machine, and all those who support this insanity.

You are right. Only about 10% of the population in Colonial times had firearms, and they were not repeating firearms. They were muskets and muzzle loaders. Guns are also likely to be stolen, or accidentally discharged by the owner or someone in the owner’s household, or used for suicide. People are better off with a big dog, a good alarm, strong locks, carefully guarded windows if they are on the first floor, etc. Plus, a dog can give you love your gun can’t (hence John Lennon’s mocking song that Happiness Is A Warm Gun).

The court is conservative because Trump got elected. Trump got elected because of increasing frustration with the far left. Democrats lost seats in NY because of the AOCs of the world. Wildly liberal San Francisco just voted put their DA. A republican flipped a blue seat in Texas. We absolutely need more people in the middle or these swings will just continue

The court is conservative because the dirty, unethical gop denied Obama his right to fill an opening on the court. It would be much more balanced if that had not happened. It’s the new judges who are radically political.

The Orange Nazi’s TV show gave him the notoriety outside the tri-state (NY, NJ, CT). We knew his history and what he was capable of. The sex scandals, bankruptcies, ruthlessness and blackmailing.

When a law abiding citizen cannot get a permit to carry a gun, let alone to keep one in his apartment, we cannot say that we have sensible gun laws.

Dems are not just lazy. They are just as extreme as the conservatives, in other ways. Dems created the crime wave in all major cities including our New York.

So I would say, yes, liberals are as bad.

Vote Republican if you want NYC continue spiralling down.

On the contrary. Red states, per capital, have more crime. Per capital means by population. There are plenty of law and order Democrats. One need not sacrifice reproductive rights, gay rights, healthcare, housing, or any other rights in order to repeal “bail reform” or have a safe City. I wouldn’t vote Republican if they were the last party on the planet. They have no respect for women or minorities, or any individual rights, or science, or the environment, or the planet. They are religious zealots who will lie, cheat, lie, insult, lie and try to overthrow the government to install their p-grabbing, tax cheating, Orange Buffoon Cult Leader. Did I say lie? To the tune of 35,000 in four years. The man did more damage to the U.S. than every criminal behind bars. I hope to live long enough to see him behind bars, where he belongs.

trump didn’t do any damage on his own. he is fully supported and abetted by the right wing media and the people in this country who can’t see that he and all the buffoons out there telling them all the lies don’t care a whit about them! Anyone, anyone who disagrees or speaks out against the big mouths is immediately taken down. We’re heading quickly toward despotism and those who don’t see that are a huge part of the problem because they’re the ones who keep voting these nut cases into office around the country.

Oy! Your note is absolutely without any basis. It just spews vile. Dems did not create a crime wave anywhere, let alone all major cities. Exactly what cities are you talking about? If you want to have a rational conversation, first identify yourself so we know there’s not just some crazy nut infiltrating the WSR, which is mostly comprised of UWS-ers. We have a very small Republican presence in Manhattan. The Republican platform is a violation of human rights: for women, for mothers, for fathers, for our country!! Please. Come with details to discuss instead of casting wild aspersions. Thank you MJB whoever you are

Actually, crime in GOP run Jacksonville, Fort Worth, Miami and Oklahoma City is higher than here.
NY is #91 of the top 100 cities in property crime and #60 in violent crime.

Next time you see a crime report on Fox news call them up and ask them why they’re not leaving NYC, ok?

John E.,

My comment is regarding the overall policies of both parties and not the ones related to guaranteeing a woman’s right to choose or passing sensible gun control laws .

The latter shows the extreme side of Republicans.

Democrats have their own extremes such as playing identity politics, passing crime reforms that overwhelmingly increased crime, you name it.

Disagree. Please bring statistics to the table. Identity politics, while not attractive is not “the same” or “what about” as providing crazy people the opportunity to carry guns and assault weapons wantonly! NOT THE SAME as forcing a woman to give birth because she can’t get access to an abortion. NOT THE SAME!

If you feel like Democrat policies don’t contribute to the crime, by all means vote for them. It is a free country.

I have a different point of view at the issue of crime. I believe crime rising is brought on by Democrats.

I’m a long-life Democrat. I will be reluctantly voting Republican for the first time. Very reluctantly to be honest given the recent developments.

However, I am not going to deny the obvious and claim that city is safer under Democrats. Crime is high, city is unrecognisable and it is a high priority for me. If you disagree, I respect that and your choice of voting.

Really a pity that you will vote republican for a problem that is nationwide. If you researched, you would find that though NYC’s crime rate is up, the city is still far behind other large cities in the US per capita (Houston, Chicago, Philly, etc.).

Please educate yourself and don’t fall for just news reports – look at the numbers.

Facts are facts. Crime is up nationwide (as are other quality of life problems from fighting on airplanes to bad driving). And it’s up in cities run by democrats and it’s up in cities run by republicans.

You can “feel” otherwise but the rest of us have the right to ask whether your feelings are grounded in fact.

@Elenor,

Wow, quite a comment and an unbelievable request. So if you you don’t like someone’s point of view your request a proof of residence? Sorry but your “Oy” doesn’t make you an UWSer automatically either. Should I request a photocopy of your is with an address to make sure you an not “infiltrating” as you delicately phrased it?

As well, please don’t speak for all the UWS and their views.

WSR, you let this comment through? Seriously?

“ Though New York State is still a safe place in terms of women’s rights”
Can’t we just stick to facts and not assume that EVERYONE here shares the opinion in that sentence?
I know it’s a minority, but some people disagree about what “safe” means – it’s a vague/subjective word, and gasp – some of us believe in bigger state than federal rights and actually are pro-life, anyway.
Not looking for any debate. Just saying……

“Pro-Life” is NOT pro-life per se; it is merely vehemently gynophobic and anti-abortion. Pro-CHOICE is the educated, well-considered stance. New York is maintaining a refuge for women; we all deserve choice. This is a choice: If you don’t want an abortion, don’t get one. Don’t attempt to deny anyone else the right to her autonomy.

Only yesterday WSR readers were complaining about Albany crime policies, bail reform , Adams poor performance regarding reducing the crime and talking about generally feeling unsafe. Today everything is forgotten, if SCOTUS made unpopular decision, somehow everything progressives have done became right. Including even coddling criminals that has been a major complaint for the last couple of months.

Moreover, people who remember what has been going on in the neighborhood with incessant robberies, slashings, harassment, are being shushed by the righteous crowd.

I’m voting Republican too this time because I can no longer stand the inept and harmful far-left policies. SCOTUS decision is disappointing to say the least, but it is up to the states now to figure it out.

As far as NYC is concerned, Democrats are creating a city that soon will only host criminals, not law-abiding citizens.

WSR,

Why are you allowing comments that are a pure insult if they are coming from the very left? Such as GFS “Don’t be such a Karen” (?!!!), Elenor militantly demanding identification because she doesn’t like someone’s views? You should censor personal insults instead of filtering inconvenient non-mainstream opinions.
