Grab a blanket and come enjoy a free movie screening in your neighborhood park!

“The Riverside Bench,” shot entirely in and around Riverside Park, is being screened on Thursday, May 19, in Riverside Park, at the West 74th Street Running Track (entrance at 72nd Street) as part of NYC Park and Recreation’s “Movies Under the Stars” series.

A Q&A with the director, cast and crew will kick off the event at 7:30 pm, followed by the screening at approximately 8:30 pm. Bring your chairs and/or blankets to enjoy the screening.

The film is the creation of independent filmmaker Austin Chang and is based on personal experience. It tells the story of how a family comes to terms with a shared sorrow on a bench in Riverside Park. Interweaved around the family’s story are vignettes featuring moments in the lives of New Yorkers who pause on the same bench during the course of their everyday lives.

This quiet, lyrical film celebrates the Upper West Side in all its quirkiness and diversity, and showcases the spectacular natural beauty of Riverside Park over four seasons. You’ll enjoy spotting many of your favorite park haunts throughout the film.

Screening is free of charge.
