An Earth Day celebration is set for Saturday from 12 to 5:30 p.m. at 103rd Street and Broadway. There will be all sorts of performances, including dances and a performance from a Met Orchestra quartet.
The festival is partially funded by The Department of Transportation and promoted by streets advocacy group Streetopia Upper West Side.
The schedule is here and below:
I will park and idol my Hummer and watch the performance. Happy Earth Day
This is the kind of gratuitous that makes nobody look good.
The only issue with a ‘program’ like this is why the plastic bag dancing? Otherwise the reservation of a quiet street for cultural activities on a weekend day is perfectly ok.
The better test of an “open street” is whether it’s used in due course. I rode by and through it a couple of Saturdays ago, around 1PM on a gorgeous day, and had it to myself. Oh, there were about 8 people walking, but on the sidewalk and heading straight for the park.
If that’s the norm, then why bother with the ‘open street’ when any street can be closed for scheduled events?
what’s a Hummer?
I think it’s when you kiss a car and your lips get stuck in the front grill.
I can tell you idol your hummer! You may continue to do that while you idle it. Meanwhile, the rest of us will sit in the outdoors and enjoy the performances 🙂
That’s what’s known as a false idle.
Will this impact the M104?
