    Pharmacies Now Giving Vaccines to More Groups; Appointments Opening Up

    The state has just started allowing pharmacies to vaccinate more people, and that’s helped open up many more appointments. As of Sunday morning, thousands of appointments were available in the city, many of them on the websites of CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid. Pharmacies can now vaccinate:

    * Age 60+

    * Teachers, school staff, and childcare workers

    * Those w/ underlying conditions

    Previously they were allowed to vaccinate only those who are over 60.

    Councilmember Mark Levine explained the groups that are eligible to now receive vaccines at pharmacies. There’s a larger list of people that can get the vaccine at other sites, like health centers and City and state mass vaccination sites.

    You can find a list of underlying conditions here.

    Major expansion in vaccine access in NYC:

    ==> Pharmacies are now vaccinating people w/ underlying conditions. 1000s of appts available citywide.

    Those without computer access can book vaccine appointments at pharmacies via phone:

    * 800-WALGREENs
    * 800-SHOP-CVS
    * 800-RITE-AID

    I have had a lot of luck getting people appointments (to those who are eligible of course) at vax4nyc.nyc.gov. You may need to spend a 15-20 minutes refreshing, but if you have flexible schedule and willing to travel within the boroughs, you will get one that quick. If can’t on either, it could take a bit longer. Late afternoons seem to work well too. Just my experience, and wanted to share.

    I am eligible, but not within the narrow CVS criteria, and was able to get an appointment through https://www.turbovax.info. It took about 45 minutes of refreshing webpages and filling out the same form over and over again until I secured a slot.

    Does anyone know how I can join efforts to help eligible people get signed up? I felt like I was only able to get my appointment through turbovax because I am able to type fast, read and react quickly, etc.

    Keep an eye on @turbovax on Twitter to get news of newly available vaccine appointment times. Need to act quickly to book once these slots are posted. Hope this helps!

    Also, you can try the New York State sites. https://am-i-eligible.covid19vaccine.health.ny.gov/
    When you get the list of sites, even if they say no appointments, try clicking on those links. You can also call the New York State COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline at 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829).

    I know several people who have found appts at Walgreens. They’re very organized. I hope you can find a spot there.

    I don’t understand why doormen at apartment buildings aren’t all eligible. I worry about our young doormen.

    They…are, right?

    “Essential in-person public-facing building service workers” are eligible to receive the vaccine, according to the state’s guidelines.

    These links were super helpful!! I ended up getting an appointment at CVS (after several hours of refreshing the website). It seems like these direct websites are updated slightly earlier than the aggregated links (like NYC vaccine finder) making it easier to secure the appointment.
