A 19-year-old man died on Wednesday night at around 9 p.m., after jumping from the roof of a building and landing on a sidewalk shed, an NYPD spokesperson told WSR. “It’s a sad one,” he said. A relative told the officers that the man “took his belongings up to the roof” of 875 Amsterdam Avenue, and that “he had a history of schizophrenia.” The relative followed him and observed him jump off the roof, the spokesperson reported.

The man was pronounced dead at St. Luke’s hospital (Mt. Sinai West.)

Please, if you are thinking about harming yourself or attempting suicide, call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255). And if you know someone who seems in jeopardy, especially during this holiday season, reach out.
