Openings & Closings: Anar, Discount Mart, Macaron Parlour, New Kosher Grocery Store

An Indian restaurant called Anar is opening in the former NY Brat Factory at 935 Amsterdam Avenue and 106th Street. We’re awaiting word on when they plan to open. Thanks to Tsadik for the tip.

After years of Halloween pop ups, there is finally a new store preparing to open at the old Blockbuster on Broadway between 93rd and 94th Streets. It’s called Discount Mart and appears to be a 99 cent store, one tipster said. Thanks to Mary Ellen and Twilla for the tips.

Macaron Parlour at 560 Columbus Avenue between 87th and 88th has closed. There are signs up in their windows indicating that they reopened for a few days (9/10 – 9/13) to say goodbye to the neighborhood after six years. The store has been cleared out, but they continue their online business for macarons and masks at Macaron Parlour, a tipster wrote.

And work has been continuing in recent days on the new Kosher grocery store that’s replacing Seasons on Amsterdam and 92nd. We first wrote about it here. Thanks to Twilla for the tip.

I am so sorry to see the Macaron Parlour closed. They had delicious macarons, pastries and damn good coffee. The staff was always so nice. I wish all of them well.

It’s about time the Blockbuster site found a tenant. Now how about Food City?

So sad about the Brat Factory closing. We have lost so many wonderful kosher restaurants. I am glad a new kosher grocery store will be taking over the Seasons spot.

I never noticed it actually being open. Wanted to try it but it always seemed closed.

That place was an obvious fail from the day it opened, I’m sorry.

Anyone who actually went to NY Brat factory, like me (gave them three tries over the years), will not miss it.

Wow. It has bren at least 8 freaking years since the Blockbuster was open. How exciting.

I am REALLY excited about the new kosher marketplace.

Sadly, the excellent EARTH CAFE, at 97th and Broadway, permanently closed after trying to make a go of re-opening.
