On Tuesday morning at approximately 2:35 a.m. a gunman robbed a taxi driver of $500 and an iPhone near 64th Street and Amsterdam Avenues, police officials said.

According to police, the victim, a 28 year-old man, reportedly picked up the perpetrator in Brooklyn as a fare headed to a West 62nd Street address. Upon arrival, the perpetrator asked the driver to circle the area. When the vehicle reached near 216 W. 64th Street, the perpetrator reached into the front seat of the cab, aimed a firearm at the driver and demanded his cash and phone. The perpetrator — described by police as a black male in his 20s, standing 5′ 8″ and weighing 160 pounds — then fled southbound.

There have been no arrests and the robbery is under investigation, police said.
