At Spot Where Bus Destroyed Bikes and Plants, a New Garden Grows

June 20, 2020 | 3:57 PM

In January, a bus driver careened over the curb at 95th Street and Columbus Avenue and smashed a garden bed, a tree and a Citi Bike station. That flower bed has now been restored by Robert Urban, who called it “one of my pet Covid projects.” Well done, Robert!

Here’s what the garden looked like before the crash.

And here’s what it looked like after the incident.

Beautiful work! I used to work on the UES near Park Ave and always marveled at the seasonal floral displays in front of the buildings. Does anyone know if there’s a neighborhood association for the W. 70’s? The only thing I could find online was E. 70’s. I think it might really cheer people up to see something like this on their own block.:)

I was the tipster on the original story, and it’s great every day to see the restored mini-garden. But if you look at the very top of the first photo you can see that the curbstone of the northernmost center divider is still broken from the bus’ impact. Wonder what the real reason for the bus going out of control was? What happened to the driver?
