A commenter reminded us to emphasize that these Reopenings are only for takeout and/or delivery; sit-down service is still a while away. Another wrote: “Don’t forget the restaurants that never closed and were there for you through the thick of it.” Good point/New rule: if someone puts a favorite in the comments (like Pappardella), we’ll post it. As one owner said, “Every little bit helps.” Many commenters and others sent in enough tips to fill a book. Here are four. (We’ll keep posting more in the coming days.)
Viand, diner, known for “the best turkey in town,” 2130 Broadway (75th Street) and 517 Columbus Avenue (85th Street.) Both locations are now open 7 days a week for pickup and delivery. At the Broadway location, the hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (212) 877-2888. At the Columbus Avenue location the hours are noon to nine until Thursday when they’ll expand to 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. (212) 362-3333. Manager John said things are “slow and steady, better and better every day. We’re having fun again!”
Andy’s Deli, Hot and cold sandwiches, 418 Columbus Avenue (80th Street) reopened for takeout and delivery on Monday, May 4th. For now, the hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., but Alberto, the cashier, said they could expand if there is demand. Take it from a regular, it doesn’t get more essential than Andy’s, especially if you like tuna fish. (212) 799-3355 (No answer at the Amsterdam Avenue Andy’s.)
Pappardella, Italian, 316 Columbus Avenue (75th Street), a classic that never closed. Mary, an essential worker, told us “it’s been a struggle.” Orders can be placed on the website: pappardella.com or you can call your order in at 212-595-7996. “Third party companies can be contacted for orders also (caviar, uber eats, postmates, doordash etc). We have added some service: beer, wine & cocktails pick up and delivery options; meal kits, including everything you need to make a margerita pizza; and groceries. That means whatever we have in inventory, we sell to you.”
The Owl’s Tail, Cocktail parlor and restaurant, 215 West 75th Street, (Broadway and Amsterdam.) Owners Stephanie & Lawrence Bondulich sent the following note: “To all friends of The Owl’s Tail! We have missed you so much!!!! After 7 weeks of our doors being closed we are beyond excited to be back slinging our favorite cocktails and serving up comforting home made dishes and treats! We’ll be offering an extensive cocktail menu to go in take-out cups as well as glass flasks in 3 different sizes! Our beautiful windows will now serve as pick-up & ordering stations. You can place your orders in person, on the phone 646.609.3906, or online by visiting our website: owlstail.com Our quarantine hours of operation are: Wednesday-Friday 3:00pm-8:30pm; Saturday & Sunday 2:00pm-8:30pm
We can’t wait to see you all!!!! Wishing you good vibes, good health, love & great drinks!”
Andy’s Deli, 74th/Amsterdam, still closed. Two guys were in there a couple of days ago with the lights on, but nothing else new. Will post again with any news.
I love the Andy’s on 80th!! So happy to see they’re back up and running. Best breakfast sandwiches!
Hooray!
We’ve missed Viand’s friendly faces and chicken soup.
Papardella’s pizza kit sounds fun too.
Aangan – Indian restaurant has stayed open. A gem worth supporting.
Great to see more things opening up! Shout out to Muffins Cafe, Harvest Kitchen and Box Kite. They are wonderful and have been open for us through it all!
I truly hope all these restaurants opening (as well as the ones that already reopened) would put our minds more at ease by wearing their masks at all times. I walk by restaurants where I see the staff not wearing them. I’ve been in 2 where I could clearly see the kitchen staff not wearing them. If you want your customers to come back, please have the courtesy & safety not only to them, but to yourselves. If you put a sign on the door stating entry only if you have a mask on, then that should be obeyed by the people who work inside as well. There are already 2 places I will not go back to because of the workers inside not wearing one. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that way. Please restaurant owners, managers & staff, wear a mask. Thank you.
It would be extremely difficult to be working in a hot kitchen with a mask on. I have no problem with back of house staff not wearing a mask. They should be following proper hygiene practices that already existed which are enough.
jerusalem cafe on broadway and 104 stayed open. good falafel and shwarma
also saw a sign that Mahattan Cafe on Broadway and 94th is opening today
they have the best tahina but they don’t sell it as a side 🙁
opps! Manhattan DINER
I heard that Blossom and Telio have also reopened:)
Broadway Dive (101/bway) is open for cocktail and retail beer (craft and domestic bottles/cans) to go, and the sister bar Dive 106 (106/am) just reopened for food and beer/cocktail take out.
107 West Restaurant has stayed open throughout for delivery. Thank you, 107 West!
El Mitote, Francescos, and Bin 71 are also open again for take out and delivery!
We had terrific pasta and chicken dishes from Pappardella and also purchased pizza dough and cheese!
Pappardella is actually one of the older restaurants on the West Side, open more than 30 years.
Pokebab, on Broadway between 71 and 72, reopened on Monday.
Tri Dim West on Columbus Ave/82nd St has also reopened. good quality Chinese food
I’m glad Telio has reopened. I just finished a generous & delicious gyro plate from there that has given me two full meals.
Happy to hear about Manhattan Diner & Viand @85th & Columbus too — great local places.
Bella Luna (88/Columbus) has been open for takeout & delivery.
So has Mirabelle (86 just west of Columbus).
Both terrific.
Tri Dim West at 83rd and Columbus just reopened for dinner (from 4PM). a large group of us dined there just before the lockdown. food and service were excellent. a friend who lives a block away and is a “foodie” dined there a number of times in the few months they were open and always gave it very favorable reviews.
it is a high end chinese restaurant and prices reflect that.
