Move Over Seinfeld! Ali Wong Will Be First Female Comedian to Get Beacon Theater Residency

Starting this March, Comedian Ali Wong will become the first woman. to hold a residency at the Beacon Theater on Broadway between 74th and 75th. Wong, an L.A. comedian who has become famous for two hilarious Netflix specials that she performed while very pregnant, is the first female comedian to have a residency at the theater, where Jerry Seinfeld has regularly been holding shows in recent years.

She will start her run on March 29, according to Broadway World. Already the first seven of her eight shows are sold out (Update: actually, we hear that several of the shows still have tickets available). Tickets for the eighth show, on April 23, are on sale now.

Wong told Broadway World that she has love for NYC.

“I moved to NYC in my late 20s to become a better stand-up comedian. When I lived there, I would perform up to nine sets per night for no money, often in shitty bars where there were sometimes only two people in the audience. It’s incredibly thrilling to return 10 years later to do a residency at the legendary Beacon Theatre. Hopefully there will be more than two people in the audience.”

Her first Netflix special is hilarious. Filthy and completely original. She deserves all her success.

First we get all the awesome food recommendations and now this?

I probably would have skipped this one (there are so many comedy specials on Netflix these days) but now I am going to check her out.

Ali Wong…says it right there in the title. As has been said, her two specials on Netflix are hysterical. You can find Netflix on the World Wide Web.

She’s not funny. Being pregnant doesn’t make you funny, it makes you pregnant. Her jokes are awful and her voice is worse than death. Limited talent, pass.

Move over where? How would Seinfeld be the first female to achieve that honor?
