The West Side Campaign Against Hunger is holding its thousand turkey challenge again this year, and it’s going way above and beyond 1,000. This year it wants to feed 2,500 people.
West Side Campaign Against Hunger operates a food pantry in the basement of the Church of St Paul & St. Andrew at 263 West 86th Street.
There are several ways you can help. The nonprofit collects frozen turkeys and financial donations. Each turkey costs $18.
Here are a couple of ways to get your turkey to the organization:
- Bring a Turkey (Monday, November 25 from 9am – 8pm; Tuesday, November 26 from 9am – 8pm; Wednesday, November 27 from 9am – 1pm)
- Text a Turkey (text TURKEY to 56512)
Is there any way to go and volunteer there to help? Especially on the weekend with a teenager?
There are a number of volunteer opportunities with them. You can also volunteer there through New York Cares. My husband and I volunteer there but we sign up through New York Cares.
This is a great effort by amazing people. Any extra turkeys that I have from my turkey give out get delivered over to WSCAH.
