If the clouds cooperate, Manhattanhenge will be visible on Wednesday and Thursday at precisely 8:12 p.m.
The phenomenon occurs on four days a year when the sunset lines up perfectly with the Manhattan street grid, so that you can watch the sun seemingly drop below the very street where you’re standing.
It’s as fun to watch the humans react to Manhattanhenge as it is to watch the sun, of course. Sometimes they (we) end up blocking traffic in hopes that we get the perfect shot. Sometimes the police even get involved. People tend to line up on big cross streets like 72nd, but you can often get good shots from smaller streets too.
So be safe out there. And if you get an exciting shot, send it to as at westsiderag@gmail!
