Filmmaker Hillary Berkowitz Nussbaum made a new short film based on the Upper West Side, looking at the complicated decision that one woman makes about Kosher dietary restrictions.
It’s filmed throughout the area, and the forbidden fruit (or beef) comes from Shake Shack on 78th Street and Columbus Avenue.
There’s more on the film here.
Perhaps ethically we should be more concerned about what comes out of our mouths than what goes into them…In this ti me of national rancor, polarization, and verbal sbusr
Very good point! But, also, kudos to the well-done film.
Note the mention of “Lashon Harah” (speaking ill of other people) at 0:32. Judaism is indeed very concerned about what comes out of our mouths.
Thank You, Rabbi Feinberg !
We need more people like yourself to make us look at what is happening to this society of ours and fewer people to ‘sit in judgement’ of someone’s personal beliefs if they do not resemble other people’s.
As my grandmother (of blessed memory) used to say, “From your mouth….”
I loved this!
This seems relevant to me – as this short is clearly about more than the cheeseburger. It teases out questions of values, friendship, community and personal choice.
Charming…well done!
Cute, but why didn’t the tall one just order a regular burger?
The Orthodox community will vehemently decry this. But I think it’s a rare bridge and conversation starter between secularism and extreme religiosity. If they don’t like that, it’s OK. Those who are interested will watch.
Ok I will be the guy to say this… It’s disappointing to see people make light of meat consumption in a time where it has been proven to be the #1 cause of global warming. Not to mention the billions of animals that live horrible lives and suffer brutal deaths just for a burger! I don’t care what your religion is everyone should be moving away from this and toward plant based alternatives. Little video’s that glorify a joke about this fell like cigarette commercials in the 70’s and 80’s.
Electricity, industrial prcoess and power plants are the largest contributers to global warming.

Shake Shack is great! The burgers are second to none and thankfully they went back to the “old school” fries. Just like nathans but crispier.
Totally agree! Meat production is killing the planet.
Worth a laugh.
