- What to do if you are being threatened with eviction
- How to freeze your rent (SCRIE and DRIE)
- Rent assistance programs
- Finding affordable housing.
The event consists of two sessions. From 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM, NYLAG staff attorney Melissa Molfetas will lead a presentation followed by Q&A. In the afternoon, two Tina Janssen-Spinosa, NYLAG staff attorney and Program Coordinator for Total Life Choices and Julia Greenberg, the coordinating attorney for the Health Law Practice in NYLAG’s Public Benefits Unit, will be available to meet privately from 1:00 – 5:00 pm for one-on-one consultations on a range of topics related to life planning options and various government benefits available to older adults. DOROT’s team of social workers will also be on hand to discuss and help prepare advance medical documents including health care proxies and living wills.
“We are pleased to partner once again with the attorneys at NYLAG to provide our community with legal expertise and life planning guidance free of charge,” says Wendy Handler, Director of DOROT’s Lasting Impressions program. “These Life Planning Workshops support our mission of improving the lives of older adults while giving them the tools to live independently.”
