Robert Richardson, 56, died last night, at around 11 p.m., after jumping from a fifth-story window and landing in the sidewalk bridge in front of 80 Amsterdam Avenue, near West 64th Street, in the Amsterdam Houses. Captain Timothy Malin of the 20th precinct told WSR that Richardson “was suffering from schizophrenia.” The New York Post reported that family members indicated it was suicide.

“My daughter just called me and said: ‘Uncle Bobby just jumped out the window,’” Richardson’s sister-in-law Deborah Armstrong told The Post.

If you are thinking about harming yourself or attempting suicide please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

This is a sad story. My heart goes out to the family. Mental illness awareness and support is vital now more than ever.
