Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too on 110th makes it all from scratch.
Michelin’s “Bib Gourmand” list of the best affordable restaurants in New York was released on Tuesday and two Upper West Side spots made the cut. The Bib Gourmand restaurants are generally less pricey than restaurants on the traditional Michelin list, which features fancy shmancy — or “haute” — cuisine.
And the two restaurants are… drumroll please!
Amelie Wine Bar, 566 Amsterdam Avenue (87th-88th). Amelie just oepned last year so it’s a new entry on the list. The Michelin folks called the wine bar “a hidden gem. The French-leaning menu of this wine bar is quite concise. The dishes deliver a wonderful expression of flavor, from the whole wheat flour mini-ravioli from the south of France to the moules and deconstructed tart Tatin.” Here’s the menu.
Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too, 336 West 110th Street (between Columbus and Manhattan Avenue). This Southern-food spot has been around awhile and has made the Bib Gourmand list in the past. Here’s the menu.
Remember to eat local!
Amelie is fantastic. Staff is always fabulous and food is great. One of my new neighborhood favorites!
I enjoy the food at Amelie, but like B Café before then, they desperately need sound insulation. The narrow dining room and hard walls create way too much noise for comfortable conversation – and I am under 50 and my hearing is normal (audiologist checked)
Actually, three made the cut: the one you overlooked is Jin Ramen on Amsterdam at 82nd;
462 Amsterdam Ave
New York, NY 10024
That place is great – now I have to try the others!
Didn’t Amelie have a C health eating?
