Dear Upper West Side Neighbors,

We understand the concerns of our neighbors while we were in the process of undergoing renovations, which lasted for only 12 days. The renovations of our playrooms are complete, and we do not expect there to be any further noise disturbances going forward.

After being in the neighborhood for over seven years, this is the first time we’ve heard these types of complaints.  Staff yelling at the dogs is not our policy. With our dogs in the daycare playrooms, we have full transparency and offer webcam access to all members during the day. We have a long-standing reputation for exceptional care and know that this was an unusual circumstance which added stress to the dogs and our associates.

Our business practice is to provide exceptional care and understanding of our client’s dogs as if they were family members. We have hired seasoned professionals as managers in our facilities, including canine training and behavioral experts. Associates hired have had background checks, and go through an intensive three week training program prior to being assigned a position at any one of our locations.

We will be hosting an open house in July at this store, located at 105 West 72nd Street, celebrating our rebranding to Canine Retreat by AKC. If you want to come to the event, please contact us at info@akccanineretreat.com We will invite you and a guest to come see the space for yourselves and sincerely hope you will join us to see in person the value of our business in this community.

Again, we apologize for any misunderstanding and to anyone impacted by our temporary disruptions during renovations. We look forward to your anticipated acceptance of our business as a model neighborhood services provider and advocate.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
