Around 12:05 a.m. Monday at least eight shots rang out near Lincoln Center, several hitting a 25 year-old Hispanic man as he walked along Amsterdam Avenue between 64th and 65th Streets, directly in front of Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, according to Capt. Timothy Malin of the NYPD’s 20th Precinct.
The man suffered three gunshot wounds – to his right leg, right side and back – and was transferred to New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in stable condition, Malin said.
The shooter appears to have been awaiting his target while sitting in a dark-colored BMW parked on the West side of Amsterdam, Malin said. The car fled the scene, leaving eight 9mm shell casings in its wake. It’s unknown whether there was more than one perpetrator involved.
NYPD has recovered some video from the area, but detectives are searching for more as part of the ongoing investigation, Malin said.
The motive for this shooting is still unknown. However Malin said it did not appear to be linked to a dispute last week in which a shot was fired inside 217 W. 63rd Street on Saturday, May 19th. No one was hit in that incident.
Crazy!
Please note – 64th and West End is not the projects.
Amsterdam Avenue, not West End……
Just another law-abiding gun owner exercising his Second Amendment rights. Or something.
Impossible – this is a premium neighborhood, just look at the prices!
I heard these gun shots. Since I didn’t know before how a gun shot sounds, I was hoping it is something else, considering there were so many. I believe there were 2 rounds, 3-4 and then another 3-4. Now when it is confirmed they were gun shots, it is truly terrifying.
There are projects right behind Lincoln center between Amsterdam& WEA. Go for a walk.
