Wayward Ducklings Guided to Safety

A mama duck was having some problems with her GPS on Saturday and nearly guided the family onto Riverside Drive.

But a kind group of humans redirected the family just in time. “This duck and her ducklings were about to cross West 79th Street and Riverside Drive into traffic when a group of people intervened and escorted them to safety,” wrote Sunny Mindel, who sent the photo above. Photos below by Mindy Forman.

It’s a familiar scene for anyone who’s read the children’s book Make Way for Ducklings.

Happy Mother’s Day to this duck and all the moms out there!

Unbelievable. Of course they were in Riverside and not Central Park. Typical UWS ducks.

I saw these ducks mid morning walking along the esplanade in Riverside Park between approximately 116th and 104th. I was hoping mother duck would
Make it to the river at 96th Street. BUT THERE WERE 11 DUCKLINGS THEN! Does anyone know what happened to the other two and if the mother made it to the Hudson?
