Indian restaurant Awadh at 2588 Broadway (98th) has reopened after a 12-day shutdown due to an apparent gas problem in the building. The restaurant owners were increasingly frustrated as the gas problem dragged on last week with little explanation.
To celebrate the reopening, chef/owner Gaurav Anand is offering guests a free appetizer with their meal, until March 20.
A restaurant rep said that gas remains out for building residents, but we haven’t been able to confirm that (if you live there send us an email). A Con Edison spokesperson did not respond to a request for an explanation.
Gas outages have been disastrous for restaurants in the past, as they can sometimes drag on for weeks or months.
My building has had a gas issue since October. Some lines are finally being restored within the last few weeks. These things take a long, long time.
The building ran a dedicated electric line to the small restaurant in our building (that everyone loves) to help them get re-opened asap. Not sure if their gas has been restored yet.
I’ll keep Awadh in mind for a meal in the next month or two. Thank you WSR for informing us of business that deserve a little support. Thanks for the Community building.
Beguiling? A gas outage could hardly be called beguiling. Perhaps you meant bewildering?
Yes, we still have no gas. Over 2 weeks now. I live in the affected building.
Around thirty years ago, in our previous apartment building, we called Con Ed thinking we had a gas leak. When we opened the door for the technician, he immediately said ‘that’s not a gas leak – that’s a dead mouse!.” It turned out he was correct – a mouse got into our stove and died behind the clock – giving off a terrible odor. It was hard to find and extricate it, but it saved us and the neighbors from a long shut down! The man had a better nose than we did.
That place has the best food in the neighborhood by far. I really hope they get more customers because of your good will. I’m going to order from there now.
Awadh has the BEST Indian food on the UWS. If you’re going to dine-in, make sure you make a reservation as it’s very full quite often. I recommend the cauliflower as an appetizer – DELISH!
