West End Water Main Break Causes Traffic Block, Water Outages

Police shut down West End Avenue between 66th and 70th Street early Wednesday morning after a water main break just South of 69th Street. As of about 8:45 a.m. they were able to open the northbound lanes but the southbound lanes remained closed.

At least one building — 185 West End Avenue — lost water during the break. Bette Kerr, who took the photo below, said a worker told her that they found the source of the break rapidly, so they shut off the water quickly and can work to repair the break.

A spokesman for the city Department of Environmental Protection said they were on site and investigating.

That part of WEA was just repaved after construction. So, they’ll do a poor job of patching the road, and riding thru there will once again feel like driving through hell.
