On Wednesday, December 13, join DOROT for a second Life Planning Workshop, offered in partnership with the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG). Through an informational presentation and one-on-one appointments, this event promises to provide the nuts and bolts of long-term care planning and ways to remain in your own home, as well as advice about advance medical directives and Powers of Attorney. Attendees will receive helpful guidance on these topics through education, information sharing, document preparation, and hands-on support, all free of charge as a service to the community.
The event consists of two discrete sessions. From 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM, NYLAG staff attorneys Tina Janssen-Spinosa, Esq. and Téa Solomonia-Bishop, Esq. will lead a presentation and allow time for Q&A.
In the afternoon, Janssen-Spinosa and Solomonia-Bishop will be available to meet privately from 1:00 to 5:00 PM for one-on-one consultations on a range of topics related to life planning options and various government benefits available to older adults. DOROT’s team of social workers will also be on hand to discuss and help prepare advance medical documents including health care proxies and living wills.
“We are pleased to partner once again with the attorneys at NYLAG to provide our community with legal expertise and life planning guidance free of charge,” says Wendy Handler, Director of DOROT’s Lasting Impressions program. “These Life Planning Workshops support our mission of improving the lives of older adults while giving them the tools to live independently.”
Registration is a must! Those who wish to meet privately in the afternoon with an attorney or social worker must register in advance by contacting Wendy Handler at whandler@dorotusa.org or 917-441-3724. Due to space limitations, we ask all those planning to attend the morning session also to register. This event is made possible by UJA-Federation of New York.
