Two book fairs are coming up on the Upper West Side, with some unique and inexpensive selections.
This weekend, social service agency Goddard Riverside at 593 Columbus Avenue (88th) is holding its annual book fair. On Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Goddard will be selling half-price books, with all proceeds going to homelessness prevention and anti-poverty efforts. These are new books, with selections from authors including Ta-Nehisi Coates, Isabel Allende, and former White House photographer Pete Souza, among many others. Admission is free. The books were donated by the publishers.
On Friday night, Goddard is also holding a Book Bash party to raise money for its programs. Attendees get first dibs on the books. Learn more here.
On December 5 and 6, La Escuelita, Manhattan’s oldest dual-language Spanish-English preschool located at 225 W. 99th Street (between Broadway and Amsterdam)., will be holding its annual Book Fair/Feria del Libro. The hours are Tuesday, December 5, from 6 pm – 8 pm and Wednesday, December 6, from 8:30 am – 4 pm. “Now in its 14th year, the fair continues with its mission of providing families with affordable, high-quality Spanish language children’s books. At the two-day event, children, parents and educators will have the opportunity to discover new stories and share treasured favorites in an atmosphere that fosters the school’s connection with the wider bilingual community. The vast majority of books—which have been selected by La Escuelita’s early childhood educators—will be priced under $10, and most are not available from traditional booksellers. The books featured are designed for infants through Grade 6. Bank Street Bookstore and Chau, Luna will also be selecting and consigning their special inventories.”
