From Notify NYC: “Two aircrafts, a Douglas DC-3 and a Beechcraft Bonanza A36TC, will fly by the George Washington Bridge, over the Hudson River, by the Verrazano Bridge, and around the Statue of Liberty. The flyover will take approximately 45 minutes and will occur at 7:00 AM or 6:00 PM depending on weather conditions. The aircraft will fly at approximately 600-1,100 feet.”
News:
Protesters want the city to get rid of the statue of Dr. J. Marion Sims, which is on the East side of Central Park at 103rd Street. “Sims, a South Carolina native, is considered by some to be the ‘father of modern gynecology.’ He developed a surgery to treat a tear women sometimes suffer after childbirth and founded the first hospital designed specifically for women in 1855. But Sims honed his craft in the 19th century by carrying out a series of experimental operations on African-American slave women — without using anesthesia.”
Local congressman Jerry Nadler is leading an effort to censure President Trump over his comments on Charlottesville. “There are no consequences that come with a censure resolution, and, were it to pass, Trump would probably be unperturbed by it. But Nadler argues that it is crucial for Congress to go on the record with some kind of formal condemnation. ‘The President is usually seen as speaking for the nation, and we have to say that on this he is not speaking for the nation,’ Nadler told me.” Nadler, the article notes, has been battling Trump for decades.
Want to become a “regular” at a New York restaurant before they all disappear? Grubstreet says two spots in Morningside Heights are worth checking out: Tom’s Restaurant and the Hungarian Pastry Shop.
Daniel Kopulos, who owned the now-closed Fauna pet shop on the UWS and was charged with animal cruelty in Connecticut, “will attend a diversionary program rather than going to trial. A court accepted Daniel Kopulos’ application for the supervised diversionary program, in which he must attend weekly therapy sessions and meet monthly with a psychiatrist. Getting arrested on new charges would void his qualification, and if he adheres to the program for the next two years, his charges will be dismissed.” (We covered this last year, and this most recent development actually happened in May.)
The “truth” may not fit within 140 characters, hard to discern “fake” from non-fake, probable a grey area, like most things:

This bit about the owner of Fauna is most interesting and telling. I had gone into his shops several times and always felt unwelcome and that something was just not right. If indeed he was the person whom I encountered, he was cold and not at all interested in answering any of my questions. Usually when one goes into a specualty animal store of some kind there is a feeling of caring and warmth about the place. I never felt that at Fauna and always left feeling somehow pained. I am glad to hear that the state of CT has finally caught up with him. He should never be allowed to own or sell animals again.
The city provided the group with the permit to protest the removal of monuments, so they did. The police not confronting the terrorist Antifa and hateful BLM groups caused the problems. The left are such hypocrites…you have the right to free speech but only if they agree.
You know darn well, as does Trump, that the alt right torch carriers in Virginia used the statue issue as an excuse to make their vile ideas better known. People like you defended the brown shirts when Hitler was coming to power. The protesters on the left, even those who threw a few punches, have learned from history. You should do the same.
WSB – What nonsense…the left (Antifa) are the violent ones, but are really just cowards hiding behind their masks (which is illegal, but who bothers with laws anyway). Remember Berkeley, Middleberry, Evergreen State and the rest of academia…free speech for me, but not for the unless you agree!
OK, so the Hitler youth wanna be kids with the torches and open carrying firearms and screaming Nazi slogans….that’s alright with you? Just want to be clear.
Two things: First, I love free speech but it seems every time you guys get together to use this right you are spreading hatred and threatening violence. That most certainly is NOT your right. Behavior like that has consequences. Sounds like you are the one that wants a “safe space”.:) hahaha hypocite
Second: I know you probably aren’t very educated but any first year law student could explain to you the point in which SPEECH becomes CONDUCT. It’s actually an interesting line of cases. You should read them…you can read right? try it some time.
Nadler the nudnik doesn’t speak for me on HR 1697. I like the First Amendment. Can we censure him?
I bought fish and a tank from Fauna years ago and was highly satisfied with the way I’ve been treated in his establishments over the years. Both he and his workers were well informed and helped me when I needed to medicate my fish. I spent quite a bit of time in his shops and all the animals I saw there were well cared for each and every time I visited. Clearly something happened to this fellow causing some sort of breakdown. I’ve seen this before in animal rescuers. Perhaps the lesson we can take from this is to all try to do our bit two spay and neuter animals and donate and educate those doing the almost impossible job of rescuing each and every day of the year While others walk away.
Washington had over 300 slaves time we get ride of all his monuments
Absolutely Beautiful photo!
