A 29-year-old man died after his Nissan slammed into a tree near 60th Street on the West side of Central Park on Friday.
The man was driving south on the West Drive (loop road) when he lost control of the car at a curve while driving “at an apparent high rate of speed,” according to police. The car hopped over the curb and hit head-on into an oak tree, police said. Police got the call at 11:13 p.m. No one else was reported injured.
The man’s name was withheld until his family is notified.

Isn’t the loop road closed at that time?
Yes, loop road is closed at that time.
No doubt some other factors involved in the crash.
Too bad for the driver and his family, this is one of those things that should never happen.
I agree with you on this UWS.
Am worried about the Oak tree.
In case anyone cares to gawk, I believe the mangled car is at the western end of the police parking area in the bridle path. I saw it there Tuesday. Horrific.
