Two thieves shoved a pedicab into a Budget truck on 70th Street and Central Park West the night after Christmas, and it was caught on surveillance tape. ABC News talked to the owner, pedicab driver Madison Reyes, who says the bike is worth $6,000.
“It was more than just a bike, this pedicab is my livelihood. I take people around, I do tours of the park, photo books, anniversary, and just because somebody thought that it was a good idea to steal a bike a day after Christmas, I’m out of business. It’s a shame,” Reyes said.
Unfortunately, it’s hard to make out the truck’s license plate number, but NYPD is working on it. The pedicab has a plate and VIN number and is registered with the city, so it would be hard for someone else to use it to ferry tourists around, ABC notes.
If I were the NYPD, I’d investigate the handsome cab drivers. Just sayin’.
That’s an odd thing to steal. What are you going to do with it? Put it in a shipping container and send it overseas?
this is truly disgusting.
Hope the catch the thieves.
But – $6 grand for a pedicab?
I bet they try to sell it on eBay.
At $3-$7 per rider per minute (their rate which they set and have to display but most cover it up with a blanket) I’d bet that someone was expressing their anger after feeling ripped off. A 30 minute tour of the park for two would be $300 at the $5 rate. Additionally you know they’re expecting a tip, too.
