The police have released new images of two men who they say yelled “anti-white” statements before committing a violent robbery on West End Avenue on Nov. 18.
The NYPD Hate Crime Task Force is investigating the incident as a possible bias crime.
One of the men may have had a pink mohawk, according to NYPD.
It was reported to the police that on Friday, November 18, 2016, at 1839 hours victims, a 61-year-old male and a 54-year-old female, were in the vicinity of West End Avenue between West 77 Street and West 76 Street when they were approached by two individuals who yelled anti-white statements at them. One of the individuals then took a skateboard and hit the male victim in the face and pushed the female victim to the ground. The individuals then removed the male’s jacket and fled the scene in an unknown location. EMS responded and transported both victim’s to St Luke’s Roosevelt hospital for their injuries.
Individual 1: male, dark complexion, 5’10” tall, last seen wearing dark clothing, black helmet and holding a skateboard.
Individual 2: male, light complexion, 6’4″, last seen wearing dark colored clothing, possibly a pink Mohawk.

Why is it considered a “bias” crime if against a white person, but a “hate” crime if against anyone else? How long before it is unacceptable for anyone to accost anyone about race, color, creed, sexual orientation, religion etc. White people matter too, and any assault on them is just as bad as if it were an assault on anyone else. Getting a slap on the wrist for “bullying” and escape the charge of a hate crime is no more fair than viewing as a “bias” someone painting a swastika, or the words chink, nigger, spick, honkey or the like and targeting them to rob, intimidate or otherwise hurt them.
It’s being investigated by the Hate Crime Task Force. Lighten up.

i think “hate crimes” and “bias crimes” are the same thing in NYC. But I’m not a lawyer… perhaps another reader will know.
of course I’m glad to see these two guys prosecuted under the hate crimes legislation, if the facts are as they were reported.

Not surprising! I think the number and variety of incidents in every direction given the fact that we are ushering in an era of violent racism, of increased anti-black actions, increased anti-Muslim “events” as soon as the trump is sworn in. Scary times ahead folks!
