Bard Graduate Center is presenting the world premiere of Staging Evidence, three specially-commissioned performance pieces by British performance duo Pearson|Shanks, along with panel discussions, from December 5 through 9, 2016 at 18 and 38 West 86th Street, New York City.

In Staging Evidence, performance artist Mike Pearson and archaeologist Michael Shanks are mounting a performative challenge to the exhibition Charles Percier: Architecture and Design in an Age of Revolutions on view in the Gallery through February 5, 2017. Using a blend of autobiography, history, and spectacle, Pearson|Shanks intend to take their audience on an intimate journey that explores the innate tensions of representation in order to transform the boundary between past and present.

All events start at 7:30 pm and take place at either 18 West 86th Street or 38 West 86th Street. Tickets: $25 per event, $10 for students with valid I.D., full pass to all five events $100. Gallery exhibition admission will be free with a purchased ticket. Visit bgc.bard.edu/staging-evidence  for more information and to register.

Schedule:

Performance, December 5: Staging Evidence: Classical Antiquity
Panel, December 6: Scene of a Crime: Mobilizing Evidence
Performance, December 7: Staging Evidence: Encountering Locale
Panel, December 8: Revisiting Loss
Performance, December 9: Staging Evidence: Working with What Remains

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
