Once they will use the Rogaine on their scalps, the hair will grow and they will not need to wear the hoody in order to protect their bald heads from the elements.
Must be supplying a competitor of Duane Reade.
I can’t imagine why people would profile based on race…
three comments in and racism rears it’s ugly head. Nice.
the conversation with cell mates when they’re caught and go to prision:
“what’re you in for?”
“theft”
“you knock over a bank?”
“Nope”
“break into a jewelry store?”
“Nope”
“steal a purse?”
“Nope. Stole white strips and Rogaine from a bunch of Duane Reades”.
“WTF????”
Petty larceny has been going on for hundreds of years, and for a good reason. Small items are more easily and often quickly moved on than larger.
There is ready market including so called “upright” citizens often will take advantage of goods offered at a substantial discount, no questions asked about the source. Even though in the back of their minds (or front and center for that matter), they know fully well the stuff is stolen. Or as they would say in the Sopranos “fell off a truck”.
Where to you think a good part of the stuff on eBay comes from? Am speaking about supermarket/convenience or drug store things like toothpaste, cosmetics, skin care, oral hygiene, hair care, diapers, house cleaning and laundry products..
Right now nail polish is a very big thing. It is being shoplifted out of stores all over the USA. Persons have been caught with amounts worth several hundreds in retail value. Some guy hit up several West Side Duane Reade stores recently for over one grand worth of nail polish. He could go to any of the hundreds of nail salons and sell that stuff easily for cash.
welcome to de blasio’s New York. I asked the store manager at DR and CVS and they were TOLD to not call the local police precinct for “petty” shoplifting crimes anymore. that is why the lock up thinks like razors and similar and shoplifting has spiked. criminals feel no repercussions under this mayor. I guess we all got what we voted for..
Yeah, I’m really trying to imagine this poster seeking out the managers of both a DR and a CVS and getting this information randomly spilled to him. Not so much. (Also, the very fact that all these separate police reports exist…?)
Razors and small items of higher value have been under lock and key since I can remember.
I don’t like de Blasio either but your comment is such a blatant lie that it makes people have sympathy for the Mayor.
Needless to say that isn’t even remotely true.
Mark – How ignorant…when a larger percentage of crime is committed by one race, it’s not profiling. Stay deaf dumb and blind about the deterioration of the city under deblasio, that’s real smart. And I guess you think linking the violence at the West Indian Day parade to the St. Patrick’s and Puerto African Day parades is acceptable…what BS.
These look like nice college students, leave them alone!

@EricaC #1: You, like Mark, insist on labeling me with “hatred”. I have no hatred whatsoever for Black Americans. What I do have is disgust for people of any race who commit crimes in my living area on a regular basis. It is a repeating pattern of theft and, much more troubling, physical assaults at times. #2 Your truly sick comparison between my pointing out this pattern to the hunting down and killing of Jews in Europe during WWII, who did nothing at all to deserve the hatred foisted upon them except that they were Jews (i.e., Christ-killers who were tolerated at times, but finally met their end under the approval and encouragement of the Third Reich), is a sick rationalization of your liberal viewpoint. You demean those murdered by daring to compare them to these thugs who not only add nothing to society, but detract from it. #3 Whereas I have no hatred whatsoever that you label me with towards blacks, if you actually TALK to black people, you will find a great many of them have hatred towards Jews. I have found that it boils down to some blacks being furious with Jews “whining” about the Holocaust, daring to portray themselves as “victims”, when in the view of some blacks “all Jews are rich”, so how can someone rich be a victim? Jews are attempting to “steal” the “victim card” from American blacks, who are the descendants of slaves, and THEY are the one and only true “victim” living today in the USA. One only has to look at the Black Lives Matter movement that has linked itself with the Boycott Divestment Sanctions movement of Palestinians. What does supposed injustice against blacks in American by police officers have to do with Israel and the Palestinians? Nothing, except when BLS was approached by BDS, they were welcomed, as both share a seething hatred for Jews.
why does the WEst Side Rag put up with this sort of race hatred? this reflects poorly on all UWSers.
what a sad, ignorant person.
I wish you would change your user name. This sort of comment does not reflect well on my community.
@EricaC not going to happen. This is one Upper West Side Jew who is not a liberal, did not vote for Obama, and is tired of the crime done where I live by my “neighbors” from the Douglass Towers.
meshuga (adj.) Look up meshuga at Dictionary.com
“mad, crazy, stupid,” 1892, from Hebrew meshugga, part. of shagag “to go astray, wander.” The adjective has forms meshugener, meshugenah before a noun.
I will never understand why members of a group that were the subject of vicious race hatred within living memory cannot remember, even in the face of frustrating and difficult situations, that you cannot judge someone by their race or religion. Only by their actions. Their individual actions, not those of their friends, neighbors, fellow misfortunate, or others. Their own.
hey hebrew…you will never win an argument with a liberal, especially an uws one
They ARE your neighbors and most of them are just honest, hard working families. Save your ugly hatred that reeks of thinly veiled racism, nobody is interested in it here. Shame on you.
yes, because we all know jews never commit crimes. {Bernard Madoff}
UWSHebrew is a bigot. Sad, because back in the day, that was looked down on in the Jewish community.
racism is such a crippling disease.
@Mark – Speak for yourself…I appreciate knowing that I have some sensible (i.e. Not liberal) neighbors!
Speak for yourself…I appreciate knowing that I have some sensible (i.e. Not liberal) neighbors!
@Mark ah yes, point out a truth and instantly be called a racist, and having “ugly hatred”. No surprise. Is it racist to point out where the crime comes from? Especially the violent crime that happens to my and your neighbors, who try to enjoy a jog in Riverside or Central Park? Yes, so, so racist. Go join BLM you washed up product of the 1960’s.
I guess that’s why they are all wearing hats.
Forgive my ignorance but where is Amsterdam Drive? I put 4 Amsterdam Drive into Google maps and nothing came up.
I was in Boltons on Broadway the other day and a guy walks in, browses, grabs stuff and walks out of the store calmly while detectors went off and the shopkeeper tried to stop him. Broad daylight- no comment on race but never saw this type of stuff on UWS before.
Isn’t Bolton’s on the same block where the police are parked to keep an eye out for the booksellers? So he just walked away free and clear?
Police have been instructed to surveill the booksellers.
Theft, not-so-much.
82nd. The young shopgirl knew she couldn’t take him on or outrun him.
Apparently Rogaine is the current “hot” thing to shoplift:

A month or so ago it was ice cream. Last year it was Tide detergent. Before that cold, flu and allergy medications (phenylephrine is catnip to meth heads).
Other common targets of shoplifting that now are often kept under lock and key or behind counters?
Condoms
High end/salon hair care products
High end cosmetics, skin care, nail polish
Various OTC medications
Infant formula
And so much more….
Some of the lifted stuff is for personal use, however the majority is sold for pennies on dollar. If you know where to look/who to call in certain neighborhoods someone can “get for you wholesale”. Oh and there is CL and eBay as well.
where can i get 10,000 condoms cheap?
How are these guys opening locked display cases with a “key”? How did they get the thing?
Sounds like either one of these gentlemen worked at a convenience store previously, or knows someone that does or did.
I recently was in the cvs on 86th and Amsterdam and the clerk said very similar to me. the police will no longer come for trivial shoplifters. go in and ask for yourself if you think this is not true. I agree with Ralph. an upper westr side liberal here who is watching de blasio destroy or neighborhood, city, fabric, etc..
If true it *may* have something to do with the current push by current mayor and city council to process less persons through the system.
IIRC minor shoplifting back in the day (before Rudy G’s NYPD began putting everyone through the system) got you a desk appearance ticket.
You also have to consider even when summoned NYPD takes often a long time to respond for “non priority” calls. A store cannot detain a suspected shoplifter for an hour or for however long it takes for LE to arrive. Macy’s recently got into trouble with the courts for the use of their “jail” at Herald SQ. store (Bloomingdales has one too), and the detention of shoplifters.
Welcome– This is De Blasio’s NEW New York. You voted for him, you get more crime. You voted for him, you get police who no longer respond to “small” crimes.
And what about those of us who did NOT vote for him (our current, esteemed Mayor)?
