BOURBON STREET BAR SHUTTERED BY HEALTH DEPARTMENT

Bourbon Street, the New Orleans themed bar at 407 Amsterdam Avenue between 79th and 80th has been shuttered by the city Health Department. The notice on the door, issued July 27, says they were operating without a permit.

The place did get a health inspection on the 27th, and while the inspection didn’t go very well — they racked up 25 points and were found to have flies — city records indicate they got a “notice of violation,” not a complete shutdown. It’s not clear what permit they didn’t have.

No one at Bourbon Street is answering the phone and we haven’t yet gotten a response to our email message. The bar’s been around for decades.

Thanks to Jeremy Motz for the photo of the notice and the tip.

That is a pretty ragged notice! For something that is forbidden to “mutilate, construct, tear down or remove.”

I think “New Orleans themed” is stretching it a bit. The only thing close to a New Orleans themed bar is the name, otherwise, it’s just another dive bar.

They’re not closed it was a temporary notice and everything was taken care off . Unfortunatly the department of health is just like any other government building and loves to do things on it’s own time. We will be open tomorrow and moving forward at normal operating hours. For all our loyal customers thank you for the support and see you soon and for all the haters I’m sure I’ll see you thursday for $1 beers cause haters gonna hate. Xoxo

My favorite bar for watching sports. Blondies is claustrophic, and the bars further up Amsterdam attract too many Columbia kids. It is great for what it is… decently priced dive / sports bar in an otherwise expensive area.

I’ve never been in Bourbon Street but I’ve walked by it many times on my way to and from Blondies.
