A giant linden tree lost half of its canopy in this afternoon’s thunderstorm closing the Dog Run in Riverside Park at 72nd Street, a privately funded run known as DogRun72.
Avi Jezer, President of DogRun72, said he spoke with a forester from the Parks Department who noted that the tree showed signs of previous lightening strikes.
It’s not clear at this point how much of the remaining tree will be removed but both sides of the dog run will remain closed until the large fallen branches can be safely removed.
It’s DeBlasio’s fault
DiBlasio let those immigrants in!
I heard Bloomberg is still really in charge of the city, and De Blasio is just a puppet.
including the previous lightening strikes?
What a shame. That was a beautiful, leafy shade tree and so fragrant when in bloom every June. It will be missed.
Don’t worry. Dog owners don’t use the runs anyway. They let their dogs go wherever they want without leashes and dare you to say something to them.
I plead guilty as charge. However, I dread the day a cyclist kills my dog when they are riding on the walkways at high speeds. We’ll both be in the wrong I suppose. Not sure why RSP lets them do it.
Bitter much?
