1171-16 Robbery 20 pct 4-23-16

A 27-year-old woman walking on West End Avenue near 74th street was knocked down and robbed by a group of muggers at around 11:10 p.m. on Saturday night. From the surveillance images released by police, it appears that most if not all the people wanted in this case are women.

After knocking her down, they stole the victim’s purse, which had a debit and credit card along with an iPhone. “The victim sustained pain and bruising to the face, elbow, and foot but was not transported to the hospital,” according to police.

The cards were later used at two Duane Reade stores, on 94th and Broadway and 102nd and Broadway.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).  The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime stoppers website at WWW.NYPDCRIMESTOPPERS.COM or by texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.

I’ve lived on the UWS for nearly 16 years. It’s only in the past year or so, have I felt at times, unsafe. I walk my dog at night quite often where this poor woman was attacked. Very sad for her and our beautiful neighborhood.

As someone who has lived in the area for nearly 50 years. This is why we needed Rudy & Bloomberg. They 60,70,80 and early 90’s were a mess.It looks like we are headed that way again quickly.

Completely agree, I moved here with my family for that very reason, that it was a safe neighborhood, but lately that is changing for the worse.

Never in a million years would I have worried about walking at 74th and West End at 11:00 on a Saturday night. People can deny it all they want, but something is going wrong in our city.

Totally agree. I live in that area as well…for more than 20 years. I have always felt safe walking at a reasonable hour at night. Not so over the last year.

I agree. DeBlasio can claim that crime is down but I don’t believe him. Quality of life has definitely deteriorated during his term – more crimes like this, more panhandling, people just generally seem more on edge.

Wow these are brazen attackers. One of the busiest areas on West End. I live just two blocks away and always walk along West End at this hour. Sometimes later when visiting my friends. It is also my route home when I go out to eat. I have felt safe.. Not anymore. Very disturbing.

rising crime (don’t let them fool you),homeless and mentally ill overrunning the streets, filthy streets, broken sidewalks and streets, graffiti making a comeback with a vengeance etc …all this in a little more than 2 years….truly the worst mayor in my lifetime

It’s quite simple. When our elected officials blazed into office on a platform of “Police bad!”, tweeting and marching against their own Police Department, they undermined the protection of its own citizens by emboldening would-be criminals. Decriminalizing minor offenses and discarding Broken Window furthers this by degrading our quality of life and sets up a Wild West atmosphere. These girls will be caught and everyone will say the police did a great job, but thats that’s not enough – we need to reverse the current culture and prevent crime from happening, not just catch the criminals. I hope Upper West Siders remember this in the next election.

This is so sad. In the last two to three years I have increasingly felt unsafe walking around in this neighborhood on the less-busy streets. When I lived close to Riverside I’d usually walk on West End after dark since there seem to be more doormen and foot/vehicle traffic on it.

We need cops on the streets and not riding around in cars. Gotta keep these miscreants always guessing where a cop will pop up. We could probably afford many more cops if it weren’t for the huge costs associated with maintaining a fleet of cars in which cops are often seen distracted while on their mobile phones.

Under Giuliani and Bloomberg thugs were afraid of the police.

Under DeBlasio they’re not.

All the liberals got what they asked for.

Amen brother, Current administration promotes this kind of behavior. I also remember when we would not go north of West 81st street or south of West 59th street in the 80’s and early 90’s. The A-train was a rolling crime seen in the early 90’s and with all the current trouble on the trains may revert to the bad old days.

John is right. I remember when it was dicey in the 80s on the UWS. I share the concerns raised in virtually all of the comments re the state of crime and the role of the mayor. It’s been apparent for anyone who wants to see it, that the homelessness, the mentally ill roaming the streets, crime etc has made life in the city more unpleasant and hazardous. Perhaps it takes liberals to actually be assaulted by these thugs to reevaluate social and policing policies.

Thank you Mayor Bill de Blasion, for empowering criminals and accusing the NYPD of racism. Thanks to you, the cops are now afraid of arresting thugs. Crime is up, despite how you try to spin the numbers.

If the 24th wants to find these scumbags, look no further than the McDonalds on 95th & Broadway. These criminals live in our neighborhood and by the looks of them they have downed their fair share of super sized value meals.

Gonna be real hard to catch these thugettes. They did everything but look right into the camera. Luckily, they will get some practice by looking into the police camera when getting booked in 5,4,3,2….

The thing to do is not to forget.
It was comrade mayor BdB that stopped the cops from enforcing the law as they should.
The next election all we need to remember is how crime has sprung up, all over the city, and of course, on the UWS.
As well, the corrupt regime of our socialist in charge is something else to remember.

Next mayoral election day, vote him and his cronies O U T !

Sorry to burst everyone’s PC bubble (it seems it’s PC here to assume crime is skyrocketing, and that de Blasio is to blame for everything), but look at the numbers:

https://www.nyc.gov/html/nypd/downloads/pdf/crime_statistics/cs-en-us-020pct.pdf

All crime WAY down from the early 2000s. If you think the statistics are being fooled with, there’s no reason to think they weren’t being fooled with even more in earlier eras (when there was much less transparency or civilian oversight).

Let’s all just admit we were a little more oblivious/inured to the crime in earlier decades. It’s going down, and has been for 20 years, in most major cities, no matter whether a Republican or Democrat is mayor.

I expect much more common sense from residents of the Upper West Side.

Yes, it appears they are all teenage girls and black. You should indicate the race of criminals every time you report a crime. And what was the race of the victim? Caucasian? You should report that, too. Stop worrying about being political correct and hurting peoples feelings.Hope these dirtbags are locked away for many, many years.

We report what the police release. There’s some ridiculous and insulting notion that this website, which is dedicated to getting timely accurate information to the community, is holding back information that could help people identify a suspect out of “political correctness”. Police released nothing about the race of the victim. Don’t post potentially false information on this website. From now on, we’ll be deleting those comments. WSR

Not that we needed it but just in case here is another sign of the demise of NYC since Deblasio graced us with his presence.

Lets just hope he gets put in jail for his criminal campaign financing violations.
