In what police in the 24th precinct are describing as a pattern of motorcycle thefts over the last 10 days, a woman’s Amigo motorized scooter was stolen outside the office of her physical therapist during her hour-long appointment.
Police say the building’s surveillance camera shows a white van pulling up alongside the offices at 258 West 91st Street on April 20. A man walked up to the scooter, removed the scooter seat and lifted the seat and the scooter into the back of the van and drove away.
Among the motorcycles stolen:
- A 2015 Ducati Monster parked at 11 pm on April 14 in front of 55 West 86th Street was missing the next morning when the owner returned to the vehicle, police report. There was no wheel lock on the vehicle.
- A 2013 Yamaha FZS parked near the corner of 103rd Street and West End Avenue on April 14 at 4:30 pm was discovered missing in the evening of April 16th, police say.
- A Ducati 2016 959 Panigale parked in front of 120 West 100th Street had the locking mechanism damaged. The vehicle was not removed but the incident but police believe someone was trying to steal the Ducati.
Motorcycle thefts were also a problem last fall in the 24th precinct.
Motorcycle thefts have been an epidemic on the upper west side for at least the past decade.
Stealing the scooter is just cruel.
Well now we know what’s been keeping Scooter Stan so busy lately.
