After more than two years of dealing with renovations, permits, and other approvals, Kirsh  Bakery and Kitchen replacing iconic UWS brunch spot Popover’s on Amsterdam Avenue between 86th and 87th is about to open. On Instagram, owner Dan Kirsh said they’ll be opening at 7 a.m. on Monday, and the bakery has been producing some lovely-looking loaves (below) as they get ready. The restaurant eventually plans to be open 24 hours a day.

We’ve written more about the restaurant here.

If someone could stop by and snap some pictures for us to post on Monday morning, it would be very much appreciated.

Looks good.

I’d also like to put in mention of the delicious bakery and cafe on 90th Street & Amsterdam – Georgia and Aliou’s 🙂

I was thinking the same thing. I also wonder how this will differ from the Diner on 91st/Bway.

I miss popovers and I agree, kind of a sketchy spot to stay open 24 hours.

CVS is right across the street and they are open 24 hours too. This is not a “sketchy” location.

What should a coffee cost then? They are $1.50 when sold by a vendor in a coffee wagon who pays no rent, utilities or real estate taxes and you drink it standing on the street.

Although I haven’t been to Kirsh yet, Georgia and Aliou’s called Tiny Treats, ia a wonderful French bakery and cafe on 90th and Amsterdam. Everything looks good there including their breads. I love their baguettes!
