Several new places to eat have either just opened on the Upper West Side or they’re getting close.
Mimi Restaurant has opened in the former home of Ozu on Amsterdam between 87th and 88th streets next to. Dan tells us the menu out front advertised sushi and sake.
The Dunkin Donuts on 72nd street between Amsterdam and Columbus in the former home of City Pie is now open. Thanks to Gretchen and Swati for the tips.
Bra Smyth, the brassiere shop on 77th and Broadway will be moving one block North to the former home of Sushi Shop between 77th and 78th. Thanks to Sue for the tip.
A new Lenny’s is coming to the Upper West Side. “Lenwich by Lenny’s will open this summer in 2,100 square feet at street level (and 4,000 square feet in the basement for storage) at 2565 Broadway between West 96th and West 97th Streets,” according to the Observer.
NY Brat Factory, the long-awaited restaurant on the corner of 106th street and Amsterdam Avenue, has a sign up in the window that says they’re looking for staff. Great Kosher Restaurants has more: “the NY Brat Factory will be a Glatt Kosher restaurant featuring a variety of authentic sausages.”
Thanks to Elizabeth for the tip.
A new salon called Perfect Brows is opening on Broadway between 103rd and 104th streets in a former framing store. Thanks to Ernie for the photo.
Lenwich? Really? Did they need to rebrand something we all knew about?
re: Lenwich, my understanding is they want to expand their sandwich empire outside NYC and there’s already a “Lenny’s Subs” national chain, hence the rebrand. I kind of love that they refuse to give up the “Lenny’s” moniker in Manhattan, even though “Lenwich by Lenny’s” sounds like a low-end denim brand from the early aughts.
They want to expand their brand and they couldn’t trademark “Lennys” because it’s generic.
Re: the name, cf. the original Observer article. Quoting:
Lenwich by Lenny’s 18th location opened at 459 Park Avenue South at East 31st Street in late 2014, as CO previously reported. That’s the same year that the chain’s chairman and chief executive officer, Sei Hoon “Lenny” Chu unveiled the current name as he was unable to trademark “Lenny’s” outside of New York City.
I missed Ozu closing. Was that reported in WSR?
Why is NY Brats long awaited? I have never heard of it. I get updates about the NYC eateries regularly. And I don’t get up to that area often.
Eagerly awaiting the opening of the Brat Factory,
Pass it daily walking the kids to school.
I’ve tried to convince them that it’s a place where they manufacture children.
So far, they’re not buying it…
Lenny’s! Fabulous addition to the 96th-103rd Street corridor. Much needed
Thanks for the timely information — friends and I were headed to Ozu for dinner tonight! Loved that place. So sad to lose it.
Does anyone know if Ozu moved to a different location or just closed? I always enjoyed eating there–good healthy good and a peaceful environment. –TS
Hah! Good one
v funny josiah!
From Ozu’s website
Thank you for visiting our WebSite.
Currently, we close our restaurant to renovate and open the new Japanese restaurant.
We are planning to open it on March.
We’ll inform you about detail including the opening date through this website.
I’m also looking forward to the Brat Factory opening. I think I noticed they have an expandable awning on the side of 106th so they may have outdoor seating in warmer months too.
Sounds like my dad haha
I’m just glad there’s a new eyebrow place opening. I was worried it was going to be a nail salon.
Phew.
Glatt Brat?
I am excited about the NY Brats opening, but I don’t understand the business model of a Brats place that will be closed on Friday nights and all day Saturday until after sundown?
“Authentic Kosher Sausages”??
Does… not… compute…
For Josiah:
We walk to school that way too! Our older one didn’t fall for it either but little one said, “Really?” Oops.
A tale of two Lenny’s?
Lenny’s Bagels (no relation) is a block & a half away (98th St.)
Like any Kosher restaurant — they charge higher prices to make up the difference.
