Police officers involved in the arrest, in a photo posted on Twitter by Chief Joseph Fox of the NYPD Transit Bureau.
A Transit Police team arrested a convicted sex offender on Wednesday for allegedly rubbing against a woman on the 2 train on its way to the 96th street station.
The Daily News reported that the man was charged with forcible touching and sex abuse.
NYPD Transit cops nabbed Timothy Pender, 46, of Brooklyn, just moments after he rubbed his groin against a woman as their uptown No. 2 train roared into the 96th St. Station about 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, officials said.
The Post reported that two officers witnessed the incident.
The cops quickly intervened and nabbed Pender for forcible touching as the train pulled into the 96th Street station. Pender has 26 prior arrests on his record, including two convictions for sex offenses, cops said.
Transit Bureau Chief Joseph Fox wrote on Twitter that Pender is a Level 1 offender (considered the lowest risk of repeated offenses).
The NYPD has been encouraging women to report abuse on the trains. Sex abuse crimes on trains rose 33% last year to 130, from 98 the year before.
Really smart, posting the officers pictures..
This photo was posted publicly on twitter by the chief of the transit police. He was congratulating them on the arrest.
What’s so great about the pic is that even after seeing it, if I saw any of them tomorrow it wouldn’t even register. They blend in and are nondescript. Kudos. You just never know who is next to you.
26…..26 prior arrests.
And “26 arrests” still leaves him as the “lowest risk offender”…?! Bizarre. At what multiple of 10 arrests does the NYPD classify him as a “moderate risk”?
The U.S. has the highest incarceration rate in the world. But this guy should have stayed in the slammer, rather than being re-arrested.
Not blaming you… just stupid of the NYPD to post their photograph… especially since they’re undercover, and all.
You left out the word “repeat”. Kinda changes the meaning just a smidge….
How can a man with 26 prior arrests be considered the lowest risk for repeated offenses?
how many arrests does one need to have to become at least a Level 2?
Makes no sense!
Is it just me or does the guy on the left look like he was photoshopped into the picture. There is no shadow behind him or at his feet unlike the rest of the crew and he appears to be at least a foot taller than anyone else. If the tiles are 4×4 and the base is 8″ then he is 6’4″ and the other guys are about 5’6″. Hmmmm.
