The videos below by Katie Keith Detting show the blaze on Oct. 6 at 210 West 101st street that injured two people and drew a response of 106 firefighters. In the second video, you can also hear windows breaking and an air conditioner falling to the ground. We’re awaiting word from FDNY on the cause.
The fire spread through at least three floors. The people who were injured are okay, and four apartments are under repair, she added. She wrote the following about the blaze:
“Big thank you to FDNY (Engine Company 76/Ladder Company 22/Battalion 11 & Others) from all the residents at 210! Your speedy and skilled response were a big relief. Thankfully only minor injuries reported. Fire is no joke, this was much too close for comfort. Don’t take safety or your fire department for granted!”
We’ve asked Katie to let us know if readers can help with money or donations.
THe cause of the fire was “Unattended incense”
I was there by the lobby when the fire was in full force. I overheard quite a few exiting firefighters mention to each other and other residents that as they we checking and sweeping through the floors, they noted that no fire alarms were triggered. I can’t believe a building like this would have no protection and I bet the management will be in big trouble. I see a lot of children going in and out. Can you imagine if a youngster was killed?
