‘LOST’ PARAKEET HAS TUMULTUOUS MORNING IN RIVERSIDE PARK

September 11, 2015 | 8:33 PM

parakeet1

Our tipster Erica found a parakeet Friday morning on the Riverside Park bike path around 90th street next to the Hudson River. “The poor guy was hit by a biker (who turned around and came back to make sure it was ok),” Erica wrote.

It looked like a “house parakeet” (as opposed to a wild parakeet).

One of the parakeet’s rescuers took it home and put it in a cage If this is your parakeet, let us know. If not, think of a name for the little survivor.

Maybe we could give the lost parakeet to the cat that was found the other day.

It is not uncommon for bird owners to release their (former) pets into the parks.
Their chance of survival there is not good.

parakeets in the wild can be seen in central park, too. they have been widely documented for many years.

you can report sightings here (https://wildparrotsny.wordpress.com), for one.

The poor bird is scared, pathetic, injured, lost. You can only feel sorry for it, I think we should name him “Dubya”

Why so hostile?
With a name like PUB, I think you are the
one that needs to quit drinking.

I saw a sign in Riverside Park near 76th St. that someone is searching for a missing Parrot (way different than a parakeet). The sign says the bird flew out an open window and is probably frantically trying to get back into anyone’s window – or perhaps in the park. FYI

Please take it to Avian And Exotics on Columbus and 87th. They are able to find owners!

I also found a blue parakeet in CP last Spring. Tried to find the owner to no avail. Named mine Madison for no apparent reason…but I think you should consider “Hudson” for an apparent reason

I also saw a sign for a lost *parrot* on West End Avenue around 76th or 75th Street, on the SE corner. It would be worth calling the number on the sign. I’m out of town, so I cannot go out to check the sign myself, but perhaps someone in the neighborhood could alert the sign poster to this thread.

Thank you, Erica! I am the person who took the bird home. He seems fine; I made a vet appointment and am trying to find his owner (someone has already contacted me through my craiglist posting about it). I have another budgie and will keep this little guy if no one claims him, as long as vet clears him. I named him Pip; he squeaks.

wish i had read this sooner…there is a parrot flying around the Douglas Projects. People have unsuccessfully tried to catch it for a while. At 103 Street and east side of Columbus Avenue. Hanging out with the pigeons. Hope the owners of the lost birds see this.
