FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF LOST KITTENS…

lost kitten

This kitten was found by one of our readers inside Central Park at 85th street on Sunday. He wrote:

I found this sweet little kitten in Central Park today at around 5.15pm. It was on the West Side, at around 85th Street, just near the main drive. She (I think she’s a girl) is clearly domesticated because her coat was in good condition, her claws were short and she wasn’t at all afraid of people and was asking for food from all the passers by. She’s all black, short-haired and probably about 6-9 months old. She didn’t have a collar or seem to have a microchip. Perhaps she ran away during the fireworks.

I took her to the cat fostering and adoption folks at Pet Co and she was very calm and trusting all the way. I couldn’t keep her at my home because we’ve already got two cats who don’t really like other cats.

Please could you send something out in case one of your readers has lost her? The adoption agency she’s with now is called 2000 Spays and Neuters.

Aw, cutie. I think I saw this cat about 2 weeks ago in Central Park near the 72nd Street entrance.

Hi which Petco? Did they take her? I’m with a rescue on the UWS. I just want to be sure Petco didn’t send her to ACC. Please let me know. She is very beautiful and very adoptable. Thanks!

I left her with the adoption agency who is at the PetCo at 92nd and Broadway three times a week. I hadn’t heard of the agency before but they are called 2000 Spays and Neuters, and they are a no kill agency. They’ll take her to the vet, check her health and for a microchip, find her a foster home and ultimately get her adopted.

Does anyone know if she is still available for adoption?

Just out of curiosity, what is the ACC? And for future reference, where is the best place to take a cat when it’s found on the UWS? I see cats running around all the time but just assumed that they belonged to someone and they could find their way home. Twice I had ‘rescued’ cats on the UES only to discover that they belonged to tenants in a huge apt complex, and they weren’t too happy when I took their cats to my vet’s office (he used to do rescues but has since retired).

I believe this cat belongs to a homeless couple that sit at west 60th and Broadway. They lost one of their black kittens one night a few weeks back and are devestated.

if they have too many kittens to care for and one got “lost”, it might be best for the kitty to get an inside home.
