kayaking

Free kayaking has started up again in Riverside Park around 72nd street on weekends from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m.

“Kayaks, paddles, lifejackets and basic instructions are provided…All participants must sign a liability waiver and know how to swim. Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult and have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Paddlers under the age of 16 must share a boat with an adult.”

If other people are waiting, instructors will ask you to come back to the dock in 20 minutes. Learn more here.

The program is run on a volunteer basis by the Manhattan Community Boathouse. See how to support them here.

Our primary goal is to create a safe and respectful space where a broad spectrum of voices can be heard. We welcome diverse viewpoints and encourage readers to engage critically with one another’s ideas, but never at the expense of civility. Disagreement is expected—even encouraged—but it must be expressed with care and consideration. Comments that take cheap shots, escalate conflict, or veer into ideological warfare detract from the constructive spirit we aim to cultivate.
