Police are looking for a man who snuck up behind a woman last Sunday just before 5 a.m. and choked her, CBS reported.
Around 4:55 a.m. this past Sunday, the 23-year-old woman was walking near the Collegiate School at 260 W. 78th St. – between Broadway and West End Avenue – when the suspect came up from behind, police said.
The suspect put his arm around the woman’s neck and his hand over her mouth, and began choking her, police said.
The woman fought the man off and ran away.

Hmmmm.. so where are the outraged comments calling for De Blasio’s head and blaming this incident on the projects? Guess crime is perceived differently when it’s a white, preppy looking perp.

Miriam, I’ve noticed that too… whenever the alleged criminal is African-American, the comments are filled with outrage and cries of “thug!” “bring back stop and frisk!” “take away his family’s benefits!” Whenever the alleged criminal is white… not so much. It’s an interesting pattern.

– I’m glad that there have been no “blame the victim” posts to the effect that the victim should not have been out at that hour.
– A few posters seem to view everything through the prism of race and use race as a weapon to intimidate their political opponents. I do not care about the races of the people involved in this crime. Nor am I intimated by this type of ‘argument.’
– In the year 2015, the street cameras should be much higher resolutions. The video is so grainy that it is difficult to determine the suspect’s appearance.
– If the suspect is caught and convicted, part of his punishment should be to lose whatever welfare benefits he receives–for life.
as i’ve asked you before, what other govt benefits would you suggest the criminal lose for life?
if he is a condo owner, should he lose the mortgage interest deduction?
Should he lose lower capital gains tax rates? charitable deductions? should he not be eligible for unemployment insurance? medicare? social security?
what if he is a partner in a private equity fund? before you say that is ridiculous, think of Robert Durst. there are plenty of deranged rich people. Should he lose carried interest tax deductions “for life”?
perhaps you have stumbled upon a good form of punishment for violent crimes. i just want to make sure it is applied to rich and poor alike.

Anyone who would commit a crime of this nature– regardless of race, ethnicity, national origin, etc.– is a thug; an enemy of society.

The woman happened to have been out at that hour because she was going to work. She is a baker. Just in case anyone was wondering.
