Yes, it was a long winter, but we’ve put all of that behind us as the temperatures have risen — well, most of us have. For weeks, CNN has continued to broadcast on its sign above Columbus Circle that the temperature is 46°, even when the temperature is actually 30 degrees warmer than that.

June, who sent in the photo above, writes: “It is driving everyone in the neighborhood nuts as we just automatically look up at it ALL THE TIME. Who/how do we contact to correct this before we are all committed? Besides it makes CNN look bad- as if they need another reason.”

Screen Shot 2015-04-28 at 5.29.55 PMThe company’s website is willing to tell the truth — why not its sign?

Several desperate people have attempted to reach out the company on twitter, to no avail.

Hello @cnn your sign on Columbus Circle has said 46 degrees for weeks. Give the people of #NYC some hope for the spring and fix it!

Update: Apparently, CNN has heard your pleas, Upper West Siders, and turned off the sign entirely as of Wednesday morning. Thanks to Laura for the photo:

haha I made fun of this every night walking home through the park and joked “their forecast is as accurate and timely as their REPORTING”

they’ve finally just taken the temperature DOWN.

How about turning off the sign at night every night. The light is so bright, I can read by it in my bedroom on W 90th street. This is light pollution at its worst!

Looks like sign is down (being removed). Do you know if it is being replaced or is it gone for good? I miss it.

I know this sounds ridiculous… but why the hell did CNN take their time/temp sign down above Columbus Circle?? I clearly have issues because I’m lost. Have no idea what time it is while walking the ‘hood… even though I have a watch, lol. Wassup re: the sign??!!

So where is the sign now (early June ’15)?
Why has it been taken down? Repairs?
