Senn Thai opened a couple of weeks ago at 452 Amsterdam Avenue (82nd street), the former home of Cocina Economica, and we’ve already been hearing good things about it.
In fact, it sounds like the folks at Land Thai might have something to worry about (yes, we know many of you don’t think much of Land Thai!).
One reader wrote to us saying “They’ve been open for about 2 weeks. Quality of the food at Senn is outstanding — best Pad See Ew I’ve ever had.”
Yelp has three reviews up, which is not much of a sample size. But one notes disappointment with Land, even as it praises Senn: “Up until now I’ve satisfied my weekly cravings at nearby Land, which is good but painfully inconsistent in terms of quality… [At Senn] I had the drunken noodles with calamari. He had the chicken green curry. We were so happy with our entrees we split the mango gelato and sticky rice for dessert. Everything was great.”
Also Senn apparently doesn’t serve pad Thai, though “The dish they serve instead looks way tastier than most pad Thai I’ve seen.”
Fyi, the owners are different from the owners at Land, an employee told us (some readers had inquired).

noodies is by far the best on the west side
They are owned by the same people.
We talked to an employee, who said the owners are different. WSR
I was thinking the same thing – the owners of Land have owned Recipe, Cucina and now this.
Thai Market sets the standard. Consistently good since they opened.
Nice to have Thai, but is there a consensus (ha!) as to what the best CHINESE is on the UWS? (I don’t include Shun Lee in this survey.)
Talking about the best Chinese food for ordering in on a Sunday night. Used to be so many options.
For us, right now it’s Empire Szechuan at 100th/Broadway.
You?
I Agree – Want tasty Chinese- Go or call for delivery (they deliver to/or possibly lower than 80th St) – Empire between 100/101 and Broadway. Try the Egg Drop Soup and General Tao’s Chicken. Lunch specials delivered from 10:30.
I’m an Ollie’s on Broadway guy, try their spare ribs, sticky rice in banana leaf, soups, or chinese veg.
For years Ivy’s on 72nd used to be my go-to place, but it’s really gone downhill under the new Amcook name. You might try Canteen 82 on Columbus, which has some Shanghai-style items on the menu. The soup dumplings are delicious. For the best Asian-style items, I think Fuscha wins hands-down. Very fast delivery to boot.
Legend on 109th off Broadway is pretty good.
We always go to Grand Sichaun 74 on 74th and Amsterdam. It’s not super authentic but somehow it just hits the spot for us.
Second that. Grand Sichuan is also amazingly speedy in delivery (usually), and the food nearly always arrives hot. They’re our go-to for ordering in.
Agree. Few options. Can’t seem to find a good place to satisfy my Chinese food cravings ..would love suggestions too
Yes please – I would LOVE Chinese restaurant recommendations. Maybe an WSR tasting??
We order from Cottage but are less than satisfied.
Re: “…best Pad See Ew I’ve ever had.””
Pad See Ew ?!?!?
What about Ew See Mee ??
And, not only will eye-see-you, I’ll raise you ten !!!
Anybody happen to know if the menu posted on their website is the full menu? Thai food is generally quite vegetarian-friendly, so I was surprised to see that virtually every dish contains meat of some kind, with no mention of substitution. Also, no curries?
They have one in Sag Harbor in the Hamptons.
